The AVP, Product Leader role is part of the Global Property Referral Unit and assists with the governance and oversight of the Global Property portfolio. You will work closely with leaders across the enterprise as part of the referral pathway and contribute to establishing underwriting standards, guidelines, manuscript endorsements, forms and filings, pricing strategy, reinsurance usage, underwriting authority standards and the audit process. The position will work with the Legal, Claims, Risk Control and Actuarial to analyze trends to promote profitable growth.
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of underwriting experience in mid to large account property underwriting as part of a multi-line/package account. Individuals should have strong coverage knowledge in these lines as well as skill in assessing exposures to loss, loss analysis and pricing. You will be responsible for the overall management, analysis and monitoring of a global portfolio, specializing in Middle Market. You will work within the broadest limits of authority requiring the highest degree of technical complexity and coordination.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
1. Intakes underwriting referrals as per established referral pathways and acts as a new business triage resource.
2. Collaborates with business partners in Risk Control, Actuarial, Claim, Operations and Compliance to address governance and compliance issues related to underwriting practices.
3. Implements strategic objectives, underwriting strategies and best practices with substantial impact on the short-term success of the Property product line.
4. Ensures the achievement of continued profitability, growth and/or operational efficiencies for Property through assessment of risk tolerance, market appetite and emerging risk issues.
5. Evaluates underwriting performance based on financial analysis. Includes rate, reserve adequacy, operational, planning and product reviews and develops plans to resolve issues.
6. Establishes and implements underwriting guidelines, policy, forms, and manuscript endorsements; identifies gaps in product offerings.
7. Monitors the usage and profitability of alternative pricing programs.
8. Drives adherence to underwriting authority delegation, audit criteria and catastrophe management for Property.
9. Confident in freely sharing knowledge and expertise with others, mentoring, and assisting in the development and facilitation of underwriting training.
10. May take lead responsibility for the development of underwriting strategies and position papers for emerging issues when assigned.
11. May maintain relationships with field underwriting teams, brokers, agents, and customers to assess risk tolerance, market appetite and emerging issues.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
1. In-depth technical knowledge of underwriting theories and practices within the Property insurance field.

Education & Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree with Master’s preferred in a related discipline, or equivalent.
2. Typically a minimum of 10 years of related work experience, with five years management experience.
3. Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) roles.
