Position Overview

Ensure conformance of all products with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, which requires that all Information Communication Technology procured, created, and used by the Federal Government be equally accessible to people with disabilities. Possess a strong understanding of Section 508 requirements, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) and best practices, as well as experience in web design, web development, and accessibility. Possess familiarity with assistive technologies, in particular JAWS (Job Access with Speech), JAWSInspect, and ANDI (Accessible Name & Description Inspector) and the needs of people with disabilities. Possess excellent communication and organizational skills, be detail-oriented, and work with a variety of stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and test web applications, software, and related artifacts for accessibility.
  • Provide feedback to project team members and the client on testing results and provide remediation options.
  • Attend meetings to discuss status; offer insight into processes and team practices; and field questions regarding accessibility testing, criteria, regulations, and requirements.
  • Use excellent research, planning, and organization skills to manage changing and competing priorities under strict timelines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Maintain awareness of Section 508 guidance and direction from federal sources, such as Section508.gov, Usability.gov, and client-specific guidance.
  • Provide feedback to teams on inefficiencies within a current implementation and opportunities for enhancement.
  • Leverage various automation products to scale 508 automation capabilities across the program.
  • Articulate test results, user impacts, and remediation options and provide a defensible rationale for accessibility compliance.

 

Qualifications

  • US citizen or lived in the US for 3 of the last 5 years.
  • Must be able to obtain a U.S. Federal government client badge and pass a government Public Trust background investigation 
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience
  • Strong understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) from planning through maintenance
  • Strong understanding of Section 508 requirements and best practices, as well as experience in web design, web development, and accessibility
  • Familiarity with assistive technologies and the needs of people with disabilities
  • Expert in use and limitations of Job Access with Speech (JAWS) and JAWS/JAWSInspect
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, detail-oriented, and ability to work with variety of stakeholders
  • Experience with standard accessibility tools, checklists, and techniques such as screen readers and keyboard navigation techniques to evaluate software and application user interfaces (UI) for Section 508 conformance
  • Understanding and thorough knowledge of federal accessibility laws, regulations, polices, and practices
  • Expert understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • Experience creating and updating Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) and Desktop Test Plans (DTPs)
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other web technologies and their impact on accessibility
  • Experience in CRM technologies such as Salesforce and Project and artifact Management tools like JIRA and SharePoint
  • Experience working with and managing accessibility testing, audits, and remediation
  • Must be able to pass background investigations
  • CMS, HHS, or other government experience preferred

 

The salary range provided represents the estimated compensation for new hires in this position, applicable across all locations. Actual offers may vary based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and market conditions.
