PAY RANGE

The Target Pay Range for this position is $122,000.00-$149,100.00 annually. The full Pay Range is $94,500.00 - $176,500.00 annually. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Incentives are performance based and targets vary by role.

IMPACT YOU’LL MAKE

As a Principal Auditor for lending and compliance audits at BECU, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our internal controls and risk management processes support the organization’s strategic goals. You’ll lead audit services engagements, offering insights that drive operational improvements while building strong, trust-based relationships with internal stakeholders. Your leadership will not only enhance our audit processes but also empower BECU to operate more effectively, efficiently, and in alignment with regulatory standards.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Lead Risk-Based Lending and Compliance Audits: Serve as the Auditor in Charge for lending and compliance risk-based audits to identify risks in BECU’s processes, evaluating the controls used to manage those risks in relation to strategic objectives.
  • Oversee Engagements: Take primary responsibility for the lending and compliance audit engagements, including setting and monitoring time budgets, reviewing workpapers, providing feedback to the team, and finalizing audit reports.
  • Build Partnerships: Establish and maintain credible, trust-based relationships with internal stakeholders by understanding their business objectives and processes.
  • Maintain Independence: Conduct all assurance activities with an independent outlook, maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately.
  • Stay Compliant: Maintain a deep understanding of regulatory and legal requirements relevant to financial services and internal processes and ensure all activities comply with professional auditing standards.
  • Make Improvement Recommendations: Offer recommendations to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness, supporting both internal teams and Audit Services.
  • Support External Examinations: Assist state and federal examiners, as well as public accounting firm staff, in their review of BECU operations.
  • Utilize Data Mining Tools: Leverage data mining tools to enhance audit tests and improve the accuracy and efficiency of the audit process.
  • Consult on Ethical Matters: Provide advice on ethical issues, ensuring that BECU maintains high standards of integrity across its operations.
  • Provide Consulting Expertise: Offer consulting services related to risk assessment, internal controls, and process improvement opportunities, helping BECU streamline operations.
  • Perform Additional Duties: Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support the team and the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration required, emphasis in Accounting or Finance preferred, or equivalent work or educational experience with a professional certification as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA), Certified Information Security Auditor (CISA), or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required. 
  • Minimum 7 years internal auditing experience required.  Internal audit experience in a Credit Union or financial institution preferred plus a minimum of two years leading a team in internal audit engagements.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service, including the skill to communicate difficult or sensitive information with tact and empathy.
  • Proven ability to effectively solve complex problems and negotiate solutions that balance stakeholder interests while achieving desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans and manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and timely delivery of objectives.

Desired Qualifications

  • Internal audit experience in a Credit Union or financial institution preferred.
