Primarily responsible is underwriting a high volume of loans while exercising skill and judgment in the extension of credit. Underwrites indirect/dealer-initiated loans and acts as a backup to the direct consumer lending activities. The position evaluates the credit worthiness of members, loan and collateral information, and submitting loan officer notes to decision loans within guidelines; conveys loan decisions and alternatives to loan officers and our dealer contacts. The Underwriter is looked to as a lending product and procedure expert and provides exceptional member service with prompt, thorough, and dependable interactions with internal members. Maintains knowledge of credit criteria, interest rates, and loan documentation requirements and supports others by answering questions of the like. Fosters a positive and collaborative team environment and makes recommendations regarding process/policy improvements.
Working remote or in a hybrid capacity is possible at managements discretion - Candidate must reside in the State of Idaho. Some travel may be required.
Essential Functions:
· Provides effective credit granting decisions to maximize revenue and minimize loss
· Promptly answers/responds to phone calls and emails from dealer partners.
· Actively works to build and maintain excellent relationships with dealers by being friendly, knowledgeable, consistent, highly responsive, and cooperative.
· Maintains updated knowledge of and complies with all Federal, State, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation
· Contributes to team success by focusing on and attaining credit union goals
· Prepares and interprets reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information as required by management
· Identifies cross selling and relationship building opportunities with members and advises internal members on how to offer products and services
· Works with limited supervision and operates within authorized limits in accordance with established credit union policies and guidelines
· Possesses solid knowledge of interest calculations, terms and payments and can explain them to others
· Participates in group and individual projects and additional duties as assigned
· Assists with identifying internal training needs. May conduct training to new and existing lending personnel
· Actively counsel’s dealer contacts on loan products and procedures.
· Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of lending policies and procedures, including consumer, and small business lending as applicable
· Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
· Identifies process improvements and contributes to the development of new operational methods
· Assists with developing and communicating new policies and procedures
· Maintains positive communication through various channels with branch staff and indirect lending partners
· Responsible for the audit results of individual work; Ensures compliance, procedures and policies are always met
· Provides exceptional internal and external member service.
· Understands, applies, and complies with all Credit Union Policies and Procedures, State and Federal laws and regulations, and adheres to requirements set forth by the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
· Completes other duties assigned by management as needed.
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Two years consumer lending experience required; previous work experience with full-service financial institution required
· Underwriting experience preferred

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including loan interviewing and public relations, familiarity with PCs and standard software
· Ability to read and understand written communications such as policies, legal information and procedure manuals

· Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers to consistently uphold our credit union’s quality and service standards
· Perform job functions independently with limited supervision; work effectively on own and as part of team

· Must remain composed in stressful, high-pressure situations. Calmly and professionally handle different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of member service and the ability to maintain confidentiality

· Reports to work regularly; maintains reliable and timely attendance. Available to work days and hours as dictated by business needs
Scheduling/Location:
· Working remote or in a hybrid capacity is possible at management’s discretion
· Must be able to work 10-hour shifts, and schedule may change as needed
· Must be willing and able to work multiple Saturdays a month
Physical Requirements:
Bend, sit, or stand to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion; occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Operate routine office equipment including computer terminals, keyboards, telephones, copiers, and calculators. Work on computer for up to 8 hours per day. Some locations may require ability to climb or descend stairs with minimal assistance in emergency situations.
