Job Title:              Senior Design and Safety Case Engineer

The role
As a Senior Design and Safety Case Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Devonport facilities are being developed to enable both the refit of active submarines as well as the defuel of the UK’s retired submarine fleet, and the associated infrastructure. 

 

Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for the governance and oversight of nuclear safety case(s) across one of seven plant management groups. 

 

  • You will be leading part of the team who are responsible for implementing the nuclear safety case requirements, including documents such as design reviews, change requests, concessions, hold points, and administrative control documents. 
  • Authorising safe engineering works, including handover and acceptance of assets into service. 
  • You will be part of the team who are responsible for oversight and management of control of work, site operations, plant maintenance and routine facility demands.
  • Supporting projects designing and installing new engineering and infrastructure
  • Liaising with operational teams undertaking health and safety walk downs, as well as dealing with defects with the facility or supporting equipment.

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

 

Essential experience of the Senior Design and Safety Case Engineer

  • Experience within high-hazardous industries (ideally Nuclear facility industry, RAD-Waste, hazardous waste etc. but oil and gas or other hazardous experience will be considered.) – (rail/gas/construction/lifting/chemicals) – Senior Engineer
  • Experience of implementing risk assessments or safety cases.
  • Experience of managing work, change management and demonstrable problem solving.
  • Experience in team and/or stakeholder management, including direct reports and graduate engineers. 


Qualifications for the Senior Design and Safety Case Engineer

  • Level 6 STEM degree. Level 5 with significant relevant experience will be considered.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
