Job description

Title: Associate Engineering Manager (ESG Data) 

Position Type: Full-time 

Reporting Location: San Francisco, New York, or Washington DC. Hybrid-role with expectation to work in-office 3 days per week 

Schedule: 8am-5pm PST, Mon-Fri 

Salary Range: $70,000-$85,000  

Reports to: Director of Engineering 

Start Date: Immediate 

OVERVIEW 

Verdani Partners is seeking a highly motivated Associate Engineering Manager (ESG Data) to join our growing team. This position requires a self-motivated individual with strong skills in project/team management and interpersonal communication. The successful candidate will work directly with corporate sustainability team members to develop and implement environment, social, and governance (ESG) strategies and initiatives to support global commercial real estate clients.  

Primary responsibilities for this position include performing large-scale environmental data management, managing multiple sustainability projects, and support with various ESG reports.  

This position requires coordination directly with our clients; therefore, they must have superior communication, writing, and presentation skills. The position also involves producing high-quality reports such as graphs, tables, and presentations to present to our clients. 
 

RESPONSIBILITIES  

Primary: 

  • Provide strategic guidance and project management on the collection, analysis, and reporting of environmental data for our various clients 

  • Provide quality control and oversight for various ESG data reporting needs 

  • Serve as a liaison to client teams, vendors, and project management teams 

  • Analyze and develop improvement opportunities for various ESG reporting frameworks (GRESB, CDP, etc.) 

Secondary: 

  • Assist clients on developing net zero targets and strategies 

  • Support with green building certifications (LEED, Fitwel, IREM, etc.) 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree: Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, other related fields 

  • Excellent track record project managing large ESG datasets and/or sustainability programs at a portfolio level  

  • Experience using ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager 

  • Advanced Proficiency in Microsoft Excel 

  • Passion for sustainability and green buildings 

  • Ability to lead meetings and give presentations to both internal and external stakeholders 

  • Ability to effectively manage a team and delegate tasks 

  • Knowledge of building systems and energy data analysis  

  • A self-motivator with a strong work ethic and problem-solving skills 

  • Ability to effectively work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects at once and manage competing priorities  

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Detail-oriented mindset and intent to dive deep into data  

  • Experience using databases to hold and manipulate large datasets 

Preferred: 

  • Master’s Degree: Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, other related fields 

  • LEED Green Associate or LEED Accredited Professional – EBOM 

  • Certified Energy Manager  

  • Experience working on various sustainability reporting initiatives such as GRESB, CDP, UNPRI, TCFD, INREV, SFDR) etc.  

  • Experience analyzing utility data and using different analytic tools/databases (ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, Measurabl, etc.)  

  • Knowledge of green building certifications such as LEED, Fitwel, WELL, IREM, BREEAM  

  • Experience with net zero initiatives and different frameworks (SBTI’s, CRREEM, etc.)  

  • Basic understanding of asset management and commercial real estate 

PLATFORMS & SOFTWARE 

Required: 

  • ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) 

Preferred: 

  • Project Management Tools (Monday.com, Asana, etc.) 

  • ESG Data Platforms (Yardi, Measurabl, etc.) 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

During the execution of job responsibilities, the employee should expect the following conditions and demands associated with the role:  

  • Remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time at a desk and working on a computer  

  • Repetitive motions involving the wrists, hands, and/or fingers 

  • Occasional light to moderate lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching may be necessary 

  • Close vision requirements due to computer work 

  • Adequate hearing for effective communication in-person and/or on the telephone 

  • Ability to move objects weighting up to 25 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and/or 5 pounds continuously.  

  • The job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting where moderate noise levels may be present.
