Job Summary

A Buyer is responsible for effectively sourcing and procuring protective packaging products and related products, in conjunction with product specialists, plant management, & salespeople from different facilities. Focused on films, foam, strapping, and corrugated.

Works under general supervision; relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks; a certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Identifies material sources that are relative to the needs of the operations and sales.
Develops and maintains a relationship with sales and sales management of key suppliers and demonstrates the ability and willingness to translate that relationship into solid cash and program business.
Ability to onboard new suppliers
Ability to problem solve, work independently, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Procures products that meet or exceed the quality, service, and price requirements.
Provides current market levels and an accurate prediction for the future direction of the market.
Develops and maintains a clear understanding of the processes and products produced at those facilities.
Gains and maintains an understanding of the manufacturing capabilities, customers, products, sales programs, competitors, and service needs.
Identify preferred suppliers that can meet technical needs of the request.
Proactively offers relevant products to sales and operations.
Helps develop and grow sales and margin by developing an effective working relationship with sales and management.
Operates inventory software efficiently and accurately as follows:
- Creates and updates purchase orders.
- Responds to and settles claims as they develop, according to Company policies.
Prepares various reports as required.
Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor degree in business or related discipline or equivalent experience is required.
Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in the packaging industry.
3-5 years of procurement experience preferred
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook, and other business software.
Working knowledge of packaging materials.
Experience in planning, sourcing, negotiating, contracting, and supplier management.
