Job Summary

A Buyer is responsible for effectively sourcing and procuring protective packaging products and related products, in conjunction with product specialists, plant management, & salespeople from different facilities. Focused on films, foam, strapping, and corrugated.

Works under general supervision; relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks; a certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identifies material sources that are relative to the needs of the operations and sales.

  • Develops and maintains a relationship with sales and sales management of key suppliers and demonstrates the ability and willingness to translate that relationship into solid cash and program business.

  • Ability to onboard new suppliers

  • Ability to problem solve, work independently, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

  • Procures products that meet or exceed the quality, service, and price requirements.

  • Provides current market levels and an accurate prediction for the future direction of the market.

  • Develops and maintains a clear understanding of the processes and products produced at those facilities.

  • Gains and maintains an understanding of the manufacturing capabilities, customers, products, sales programs, competitors, and service needs.   

  • Identify preferred suppliers that can meet technical needs of the request.

  • Proactively offers relevant products to sales and operations.

  • Helps develop and grow sales and margin by developing an effective working relationship with sales and management.

  • Operates inventory software efficiently and accurately as follows:

    • Creates and updates purchase orders.

    • Responds to and settles claims as they develop, according to Company policies.

  • Prepares various reports as required.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in business or related discipline or equivalent experience is required.

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in the packaging industry.

  • 3-5 years of procurement experience preferred

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook, and other business software.

  • Working knowledge of packaging materials.

  • Experience in planning, sourcing, negotiating, contracting, and supplier management.
