Senior Security Engineer

The Senior Security Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Courser’s internal security infrastructure. This role involves assessing and mitigating risks, responding to internal security incidents, and ensuring compliance with security standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in cybersecurity including cloud security, network security, and vulnerability management.

Key Responsibilities:

Security Infrastructure Design: Architect and implement secure network, system, and software configurations, ensuring robust protection against cyber threats, especially within the Microsoft Azure and 365 ecosystems.
Risk Assessment and Management: Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scanning, and penetration testing to identify risks and implement mitigating solutions.
Incident Response: Lead investigations and responses to security incidents, including monitoring, detection, and containment of threats.
Security Monitoring: Manage and configure security monitoring tools (SIEM, IDS/IPS, firewalls, etc.) to detect unusual or unauthorized activity across networks and systems, especially in Microsoft cloud environments.
Compliance and Governance: Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001, NIST) and manage security audits and assessments.
Access Control Management: Oversee and manage access control systems, including role-based access control (RBAC), identity and access management (IAM), and privileged access management (PAM), especially within Microsoft cloud environments.
Security Awareness Training: Collaborate with other departments to provide security awareness training and ensure security policies are followed across the organization.
Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with IT, DevOps, and other cross-functional teams to embed security into the development lifecycle (DevSecOps) and to address internal security needs.
Policy and Procedure Development: Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and standards to protect sensitive information and systems.
Technology Evaluation: Evaluate and recommend new security tools and technologies that enhance security capabilities and defense mechanisms.
Threat Intelligence: Monitor and interpret threat intelligence sources to stay ahead of evolving cyber threats and vulnerabilities.

Key Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience: 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, network security, or a similar role, with at least 2 years in a senior/lead position.
Certifications: Relevant security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CEH, CISM, OSCP, GIAC) are strongly preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of security frameworks and best practices (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, CIS).
- Strong experience with Microsoft Azure cloud security, identity and access management, conditional access, and Microsoft 365 security tools (e.g., Defender for Office 365, Advanced Threat Protection).
- Hands-on experience with firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and other network security tools.
- Proficiency with vulnerability management and scanning tools.
- Experience with security information and event management (SIEM) solutions.
- Strong understanding of encryption standards, authentication protocols, and secure coding practices.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to security incidents.

Preferred Experience:

Familiarity with cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Experience with threat hunting and advanced persistent threats (APTs).
Experience with managed service provider technology stacks such as ConnectWise is a plus.
