Your role at Clorox:

The Clorox Company is seeking an outstanding Legal Operations Specialist to join its Legal team, serving as the backbone of our Legal Operations function. This position reports to Director, Legal – Commercial Transactions and Legal Operations.

In this crucial operational role, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of our e-billing process, including setting up new matters in Brightflag, our matter management system. This includes working closely with our attorneys and outside counsel to make sure invoices meet our outside counsel billing guidelines, are timely paid, and trouble-shooting invoicing issues across Brightflag, Coupa, SAP and iDMS.

You will work closely with our Finance department on a variety of matters, including accruals, accounting controls, and budgeting. You will play a central role in helping to develop, track, and report on the Legal budget.

You will be the primary Legal point of contact for a variety of stakeholders, including our attorneys and paralegals who have billing or operational questions, our Finance department, and our outside counsel and other service providers as it relates to the logistics of doing business together.

Finally, you will be the point person for operational efficiency within the department. This includes managing the processes, practices, subscriptions, and software tools we currently have, analyzing what is working well and what requires improvement, and bringing new ideas to the table for ways to increase productivity and stay organized.

In this role, you will:

  • E-Billing Management (50%): Oversee Brightflag, our e-billing system. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to resolve billing issues. Monitor and report on e-billing metrics and performance.

  • Legal Department Finance Operations (30%): Review and reconcile Brightflag invoices against payments made in SAP. Process invoices received through other systems, including Coupa. Identify discrepancies and work with Finance to resolve billing issues. Manage our quarter and year-end accruals process. Perform accounting controls for Finance as requested.

  • Outside Counsel Management (10%): Manage outside counsel onboarding, billing, performance evaluation, and fee arrangements. Ensure compliance with company policies and guidelines for outside counsel engagement. Track and analyze outside counsel spend and provide insights to optimize costs.

  • Operational Support (10%): Regular reporting to Legal leadership on the operational performance of the department. Track and report on the Legal budget. Assist in the development and implementation of legal operations processes and best practices. Provide training and support to legal team members on operational tools and systems.

What we look for:

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience required

  • 3 - 5 years professional experience in a corporate legal department or law firm; budgeting and financial acumen and prior Legal Operations experience strongly preferred

  • Experience with e-billing and document management systems (Brightflag and SharePoint preferred)

  • Experience with creating budgets and tracking spend

  • Knowledge of legal technology

  • Excellent skills in the following areas:

    • Technology, including Excel (pivot tables, charts, formulas), Microsoft Word, SharePoint, Smartsheet, Microsoft Forms, and Power Point, and data visualization tools such as Tableau and/or Microsoft Power BI

    • Attention to detail

    • Self-starting and following-through with minimal direction, displaying judgment and initiative

    • Staying organized

    • Analyzing and solving novel issues; not afraid of ambiguity

    • Verbal and written communication

    • Building effective working relationships

    • Customer service orientation

  • Enthusiastic member of and participant in the culture of our department
