Summary:

Reporting to the School Director of Human Services and Sciences, the Early Intervention Studies Program Coordinator coordinates the MA and Certificate programs and will serve as an advocate for students, faculty, and the success of the program.


 

Job Description:

  • Coordinates the Early Intervention Studies Program that are the hybrid programs (online and on-campus) providing professionals with current evidence-based knowledge and skills for working with families and their very young children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

  • Coordinates coursework needed by early intervention specialists (e.g., help-giving and consultation skills, deaf children with disabilities, research, and guided field experiences).

  • Works with the pre- and experienced professionals or individuals and attracts professionals currently working in early intervention or who are preparing to work in early intervention, as well as professionals in leadership or policy positions who seek to advocate for early language acquisition and improvements in the EHDI system to benefit deaf and hard of hearing children. 

  • Leads and works collaboratively with faculty, staff and administration to meet current and future needs of the EIS program.

  • Assumes the responsibility for program development, student recruiting and advisement, program monitoring, hiring of adjuncts and program evaluation.

  • Teaches courses in the field of Early Intervention.

  • Supports current grant activity at Gallaudet related to early intervention (e.g. REAL and BEACON).

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with government, non-profit organizations, and associations to facilitate student job placements and internships; and ensures successful job placement opportunities for students through curriculum enrichment and student engagement.

  • Prepares an annual program budget, develops, implements, and maintains an assessment plan that measures academic and student success outcomes of the program.

  • Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.

  • Demonstrates a genuine commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.

  • Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.

  • Prioritizes safety in the workplace as a collective responsibility for the well-being of employees and fosters a culture of safety that is integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols, as well as promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents.

  • Performs related and other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.

  • A minimum of two years of professional experience with education, program coordination, or a related field.

  • Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a higher education setting.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong computer based skills (i.e., software, analytical, and report writing skills).

  • Strong commitment to understanding diversity and cultural proficiency in the field.

  • Strong skills with sustained professional development and renewal activities related to early intervention and evidence of professional service and advocacy in early intervention.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with and across university departments and outside constituents and groups.

  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
