POSITION TITLE: Senior Manager, People

BUSINESS UNIT: People Operations

LOCATION: U.S. Remote

The Senior Manager, People is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization's human resources function. This role will play a critical role in developing and implementing effective HR strategies that support the company's overall business objectives. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits, and HRIS system management. This role reports directly to the CFO and acts as an HR department of one for a smaller company (Around 80 employees altogether).

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Talent Acquisition:
    • Develop and implement effective recruiting strategies to attract top talent
    • Conduct interviews and assessments to select qualified candidates
    • Manage Owlet’s Applicant Tracking System (BreezyHR & Rippling) and LinkedIn Recruiter as the primary admin and continuously optimize system processes
    • Own the Rippling ATS implementation in February 2025 as we transition from BreezyHR
    • Collaborate and partner with internal stakeholders to respond to Glassdoor reviews and promote positive employer branding
    • Oversee the onboarding process to ensure new hires are successfully integrated into the organization (Coordination with IT, I-9 Verification Process, New Hire Orientation presentation, 30/60/90 day plans)
  • Employee Compensation and Benefits:
    • Develop compensation benchmarking tools and advise management on compensation changes
    • Manage Owlet’s Compensation Tool, Pave, as the primary admin
    • Work with Owlet’s benefits brokers (GBS) to design and implement benefit changes for each plan year
    • Manage benefits open enrollment within Rippling HRIS
    • Oversee the 401k retirement plan and manage relationships with our financial advisor (GBS) and compliance advisor (DWC) alongside Owlet’s 401(k) committee
    • Implement Owlet’s new 401(k) match starting the 2025 calendar year
    • Partner with Finance on the annual 401(k) audit
  • Employee Relations:
    • Investigate and resolve employee concerns and complaints including sensitive harassment and discrimination claims
    • Advise Management on employee relations issues
    • Confidently facilitate employee terminations and other sensitive employee changes
    • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment
  • Company Culture:
    • Develop and promote a positive and inclusive company culture.
    • Foster a sense of belonging and community among employees.
    • Align company culture with the organization's values and mission.
    • Identify and address potential cultural barriers or challenges.
  • HRIS System Management:
    • Oversee the maintenance of the HRIS system (Rippling)
    • Ensure data accuracy and integrity within the system.
    • Utilize HRIS data to generate reports and analyze HR metrics.
  • Payroll:
    • Assist with processing (primarily managing employee changes) for both domestic and international payroll including time and attendance tracking (Rippling), employee communications, and compliance
  • Employment Law Compliance/Multi-State Complexity:
    • Partner with Legal on the management of workers' compensation claims and programs
    • Partner with outside legal counsel (McCown & Evans) on immigration cases
    • Manage HR compliance and regulations across multiple jurisdictions (20+ states and UK)
    • Manage LOA processes across multiple jurisdictions (20+ states and UK)
    • Ensure consistent application of HR policies and procedures in different states.
    • Coordinate with legal counsel to address multi-state employment law issues.
    • Stay up-to-date on state-specific employment laws and regulations.
    • Oversee relationship with Papaya Global, Owlet’s Employer of Record provider, and maintain the HRIS system within Papaya Global’s platform
    • Revise Owlet’s employee handbook and state related policies
    • Maintain proper documentation on HR related issues and employee records
  • Learning & Development:
    • Coordinate corporate trainings, development new trainings, and manage Rippling LMS system
    • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations
  • Experience with HRIS systems (Rippling experience strongly preferred)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with employees and management
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing HR initiatives
