Summary

As a Senior Substation Physical Engineer, you hold a pivotal role in utility and renewable energy ventures, driving technical excellence and fostering partnerships with stakeholders. Your expertise in physical design principles and substation optimization techniques propels our team's innovation towards sustainable energy solutions. The position is located in Eden Prairie, MN. Hybrid or remote location considered.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

  • Lead/oversee substation physical designs as a technical lead
  • Delegate design tasks as needed to keep projects on budget and on schedule
  • Manage, train, and mentor less experienced engineers in their technical and professional development
  • Facilitate coordination with PV, power studies, civil/structural, and other design disciplines
  • Review work for Quality Assurance and Quality Control and ensure compliance with EVS quality standards
  • Participate in and facilitate meetings with stakeholders and clients
  • Create or supervise the creation of drawings such as general arrangements, grounding plans, conduit plans, elevations, schematics, one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and wiring diagrams
  • Perform substation calculations such as AC & DC sizing, ampacity, voltage drop, lightning calc, illumination study, and electrical bus calculation
  • Review shop/vendor drawings, respond to requests for information (RFIs), and assist clients with general construction support services

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience working as a Substation Electrical Engineer for an engineering firm or EPC
  • 2+ years’ of experience in guiding and overseeing teams, providing leadership and direction
  • Professional Engineer Licensure or path to obtain licensure within one year preferred
  • Substation physical design experience required
  • Proficiency with NESC, NEC, IEEE, and ANSI standards that are applicable to substation design
  • Understanding of renewable energy engineering and systems preferred
  • Strong computer skills: proficient with MS Office Suite, Mathcad
  • Functional understanding of AutoCAD or MicroStation preferred
  • Passionate about the renewable energy business and project development
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
