Job Overview

We are actively seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Mortgage Underwriter to join our esteemed team in a fully remote capacity. Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and evaluate residential mortgage loan applications to determine eligibility for approval or denial.
• Review financial documentation, including credit reports, appraisals, and title reports, ensuring all information meets established guidelines.
• Validate borrower income, employment status, and assess the value of collateral and assets.
• Ensure compliance with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and USDA guidelines based on automated findings.
• Communicate decisions regarding loan applications to internal stakeholders, including lenders and processors.
• Maintain meticulous records of loan approvals and denials, documenting rationale as necessary.
• Uphold compliance with industry regulations, state and federal laws, and disclosure requirements.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the team.
  
  

Required Skills

• Proven expertise in retail residential mortgage underwriting, with a strong understanding of FHA, VA, USDA, and Conventional lending.
• Proficiency with Encompass LOS and familiarity with ATR/QM requirements.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective client engagement.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of compliance and disclosure standards, alongside closing and post-closing processes.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of recent experience in mortgage underwriting, demonstrating knowledge of agency guidelines.
• DE, SAR, and LAPP certifications are advantageous.
• Preference will be given to candidates residing within Eastern Standard Time (EST) business hours.
