Job Overview

We are in search of a devoted and enthusiastic 5th/6th Grade Classroom Teacher to become an integral member of our educational team. In this essential position, you will have the opportunity to provide an outstanding educational experience for students, while nurturing a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement captivating instructional programs that adhere to educational standards and benchmarks, specifically the Massachusetts Common Core.
  • Utilize a learning management system (Schoology) to effectively manage lesson plans, resources, attendance, and grades.
  • Educate students in a two-year looping system, ensuring stability and continuity across grade levels.
  • Establish a well-organized classroom environment that optimizes instructional time, upholds consistent discipline, and incorporates support and enrichment activities.
  • Prepare and maintain essential documentation including lesson plans, student assessments, portfolios, and attendance records, ensuring alignment with curriculum standards.
  • If applicable, oversee a paraprofessional by assigning appropriate tasks and instructional responsibilities based on their expertise.
  • Cultivate strong partnerships with parents, keeping them informed and engaged to bolster student achievement.
  • Contribute to the school’s dual-language initiatives by promoting language development within the classroom.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning opportunities to remain abreast of educational innovations and technological advancements.
  • Invest in personal and professional growth through development activities aligned with an approved plan.
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings and professional development sessions scheduled after school hours.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in various educational programs, applications, and classroom management systems.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, alongside strong planning and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to operate both independently as a classroom leader and collaboratively as part of a grade-level team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Education or a relevant content area.
  • Valid teaching license for the appropriate grade level (Massachusetts license preferred).
  • SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) endorsement, or the willingness to obtain it within the first year.
  • A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience is preferred, particularly in urban settings with diverse student populations.
  • A robust commitment to educational equity and reform, especially for low-income and linguistically diverse students.
  • Experience working with students from Hispanic backgrounds is preferred.
