Job Summary

 

Develop instructional materials and participate the design of new learning products to and enrichment of existing courses to foster the development of dispositions in STEM courses. Collaborate with faculty to develop instructional assets and course modules. Design digital and non-digital course content and participate in curriculum development projects. Perform course evaluations and measure learning outcomes. Assist with project management. Serve on an interdisciplinary team to develop faculty skills for course design and transformation.  Create Open Educational Resources which will be shared across the undergraduate STEM education community.

 

What Sets Us Apart

The Integrating Character Development in Engineering and Computing Undergraduate Courses project aims to cultivate well-rounded, ethical graduates by integrating character development into the curricula of six computing, engineering and engineering technology programs across at three diverse institutions (Franciscan University of Steubenville, Tuskegee University, and University of New Hampshire, Manchester). The Purdue team will lead the instructional design efforts and coordinate a community of inquiry across the institutions.

By piloting innovative undergraduate course development, as well as engaging and immersive teaching and learning practices, the project will align professional dispositions with essential character traits, thus helping faculty foster holistic character building as part of formal computing, engineering, and engineering technology education. The initiative expects to develop a sustainable model for character-formation in undergraduate education that impacts the professional and ethical character of graduating engineering and computing students and help champion character education in the larger engineering and computing education community.
 

 

This remote position is to serve as an instructional designer and project manager for a three-year grant-funded project. 

 

 

What You’ll Be Doing:
•    Be part of a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary instructional design, evaluation, and research team, consisting of faculty, instructional designers, and graduate students.
•    Collaborate with computing, engineering, and engineering technology faculty 
•    Create materials, assessments, and Open Educational Resources (publicly available materials that instructors can use or adapt for use in their own courses) in collaboration with faculty.
•    Assist in collection and analysis of evaluation data as necessary.
•    Develop and maintain project communications and project documentation (such as project plans, timelines, etc.). 
•    Coordinate and participate in a Community of Inquiry including the Purdue instructional design team and faculty from six programs across the three universities.
•    Other duties as needed.

 

Work done as part of this project is expected to lead to large impact on the faculty and students across six programs at three institutions, as well as other institutions throughout the world through the development of Open Educational Resources, which are materials and resources published and openly available to allow any instructor to use and adapt for their own courses. 

 

 

What We're Looking For :

 

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design or similar 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Instructional Design and project management experience.

 

Highly Preferred experience:

  • Master’s degree in instructional design or similar
  • Experience in Higher Education.

 

Preferred experience:

We are looking for an individual with several of the following:

  • Experience working with faculty in computing and/or engineering programs.
  • Experience with competency-based curricula.
  • Experience with creation of materials and/or assessment tools for cross-disciplinary skills or dispositions (“soft skills”).
  • Teaching experience.

Instructional design:

  • Demonstrated experience with redesigning courses and course curriculum. 
  • Ability to analyze course materials and design enhancements that align with the project’s objectives. 
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty to develop instructional assets and course modules. 
  • Demonstrated experience with the design and development of digital instructional materials. 
  • Ability to serve on an interdisciplinary team to develop faculty skills for course design and transformation

 

Project management skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders and deadlines. 
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., Google suite, MS Office suite).
  • Prepared to work remotely in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed.

 

Preferred skills:

  • Experience in budget management and resource allocation.
  • Experience with Agile or similar approach.
  • Development of competency statements, behavioral indicators and performance descriptors to assess student achievement in character-related areas. 
  • Experience with media development (e.g., visual design and/or video creation) and related software.
  • Familiarity with copyright laws, creative commons, and fair use.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards and practices (e.g., WCAG 2.0; UDL) to ensure course materials are inclusive.
