The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing, coordinating, and reviewing our Canadian payroll. This role partners closely with Human Resources to ensure proper payroll deductions for benefits elections and executes on the payroll strategy as directed by the Manager, Payroll. We expect that this position will offer opportunities to support the finance team and work on projects outside of payroll.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (% of Time)

Responsible for accurate and timely Canadian processing using Workday platform for biweekly and semimonthly payrolls, while ensuring compliance with company policies, as well as Canadian multi-province payroll law compliance (35%)

Process new hires, status changes, terminations, third party disability pay, and garnishments (20%)

Work with Canada location to research and resolve payroll related problems (15%)

Work with managers to ensure employee hours are submitted accurately and approved on a timely basis every pay period (10%)

Monitor, retain and secure proper payroll documentation to include preparation for audits (10%)

Assist with Workday testing and running reports (10%)

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associates Degree or higher from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Payroll Compliance Certification (PCP) Preferred
  • 4 years processing Canadian Payroll multiple provinces
  • 2 years Canadian payroll accounting and tax
  • Payroll tax: Strong working knowledge of Canadian Payroll Laws
  • Workday: Proficiency using Workday and/or similar payroll platforms
  • Software: Proficient using MS Office with strong Excel skills
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to diligently attend to details and pursue quality in accomplishing tasks
  • Accountability & Dependability: Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and respect the privacy of others
  • Communication: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from others. Ability to write in a clear, concise and organized manner for the intended audience.
  • Self-Management: Ability to display a high level of initiative, effort and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner
  • Teamwork: Ability to build and sustain cooperative working relationships

Pay

$22.31 - $40.16 / hour
