Spot Trader

We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our energy trading team, where you'll engage in day-ahead and intra-day trading to optimize costs and support proprietary trading activities. You will help dispatch physical assets, ensure accurate transaction recording, and perform key operational tasks, all while working within a 24/7 rotational shift pattern. This role offers the chance to contribute to the development of trading strategies, collaborate with teams to meet profit targets, and experience the fast-paced world of energy trading.

What skills/experience do I need to be successful?

• Familiarity with data analysis and visualisation tools;
• Ability to handle complex numerical data and perform detailed analysis;
• Keen interest in the energy markets and willingness to learn about the GB electricity and gas market infrastructure;
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyse market trends and data.

How will I spend my time in this role?

• Engage in day-ahead and intra-day trading to manage positions and optimise costs;
• Support proprietary trading activities to enhance the team’s profit and loss (P&L);
• Assist in optimising and dispatching physical assets to maximise value;
• Be an integral part of a team that provides 24/7 market coverage through 12-hour; shifts, offering the chance to experience the dynamic nature of energy trading around the clock. This rotational shift pattern ensures a diverse and varied work schedule;
• Ensure accurate recording of transactions in Smartest’s Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system;
• Coordinate with traders and counterparties to confirm contract notifications;
• Perform operational tasks such as contract notifications and volume nominations;
• Contribute to the development and execution of trading strategies;
• Assist in creating analytical tools to improve trading performance and asset dispatch;
• Work collaboratively with the wider OPG and Trading teams to achieve profit targets and ensure operational excellence;
• Support and contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment.

Hybrid working typically means 2 days in the office location listed on this advert and 3 days working at home each week. Some occasional travel to our other offices may be required.
