Job description

This is a remote position.

ASIGN is seeking Provenance Researchers who will play a key role in investigating and verifying the provenance of artworks listed on our platform, ensuring accurate ownership and historical records. This role is essential to maintaining the trust and credibility of our platform through meticulous research and documentation. This role requires a methodical and logical approach to object documentation and research, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to multitask across various projects. The ideal candidate will have prior research experience and a degree in fine arts, art history, art aesthetics, or a related field.

Please note:
1. The vetting process for this role comprises 2-3 rounds of interviews and may be followed by a brief assignment.
2. The Art X Company is hiring for this role on behalf of ASIGN. 
3. This is an on-site, full-time position with openings in Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi. 
4. Salary band for this role is available upon request.


Requirements
Essential Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree or equivalent

  • Professional level written and verbal communication skills, with expertise in English

  • Knowledge of at least one vernacular Indian language is ideal

  • Competency using IT systems, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint

  • Familiarity with project management tools like Asana, Slack, Trello etc., and with digital advertising platforms, social media marketing tools and mass mailing software is ideal


Essential Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience with arts research, compliance, documentation

  • Strong understanding of art history and familiarity with different periods and regions relevant to the artworks handled

  • Knowledge of legal and ethical issues surrounding provenance, such as looted or stolen art

  • Excellent research, investigative, and analytical skills with the ability to work independently

  • Experience using archival databases, research tools, and systems.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting research findings clearly

  • Familiar with key players in India's art network, with strong networking skills among artists, galleries, and collectors.
