Niyam is seeking a Splunk Engineer in support of our work with FEMA. We offer competitive compensation and benefits. This position is remote, but may require some travel. The Splunk Engineer will have hands-on experience in architecting, deploying, and managing Splunk instances, providing technical expertise to ensure the platform is fully optimized and aligned with business needs. This position involves working closely with DevOps, Security, and IT teams to design data ingestion pipelines, monitor system performance, and develop custom dashboards and alerts.


Role and Responsibilities:

  • Design & Implementation: Design, deploy, and configure Splunk (including Splunk Enterprise, Splunk Cloud, and Splunk ITSI) to meet federal clients' specific log management and monitoring requirements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate Splunk into existing IT infrastructure. Set up and manage Splunk forwarders, indexers, and search heads to ensure proper data ingestion and parsing.
  • Log Management & Data Onboarding: Develop and implement strategies for efficient log management and data onboarding. Work closely with federal clients to understand their data sources and create tailored data onboarding solutions.
  • Custom Scripting & Query Development: Create custom scripts and queries to extract meaningful insights from various data sources. Develop and optimize Splunk search queries to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Security Information & Event Management (SIEM): Leverage Splunk as a SIEM tool to detect and respond to security incidents. Implement and maintain security dashboards and reports to ensure federal compliance (e.g., NIST, FISMA).
  • Troubleshooting & Performance Optimization: Conduct troubleshooting and performance tuning to ensure the stability and efficiency of Splunk deployments. Provide technical support and resolve issues related to Splunk infrastructure.
  • Automation & Scripting: Write scripts and automation routines (e.g., Python, Bash) to simplify Splunk administration and improve efficiency. Implement automation for routine Splunk tasks and monitoring.
  • Collaboration & Training: Create comprehensive documentation for Splunk configurations and procedures. Provide training and support to internal teams and federal clients on Splunk best practices.


Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • US Citizen with ability to obtain a Public Trust through DHS.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology,  or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant IT and security experience, with at least 4 years of experience working with Splunk in a federal contracting environment.
  • Splunk Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Splunk architecture, search processing language (SPL), and data onboarding techniques.
  • Scripting & Automation: Strong skills in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and custom development.
  • Log Management & SIEM: Familiarity with log management, SIEM systems, and IT operations monitoring.
  • Security & Compliance: Understanding of federal security standards and regulatory compliance (e.g., NIST, FISMA).
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and with federal clients.
  • Problem-Solving: Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and optimize performance.
  • Strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and custom development.
  • In-depth knowledge of log management, data onboarding, and SIEM principles.
  • Experience with federal compliance standards and security frameworks (e.g., NIST, FISMA).
  • Experience with Splunk Enterprise, Splunk Cloud, Splunk ITSI, and other related technologies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Prior Federal Contract Experience
  • Relevant Splunk certifications (e.g., Splunk Certified Power User, Splunk Certified Admin, or Splunk Certified Architect)
