Job description

Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora,你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship office is in Sydney, Australia, but we've made our way from down under, to hubs in San Francisco and Austin, which are now home to our US operations. This role is based in our Austin, Texas office.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

Canva’s global Commercial Legal team of nine, is seeking a business-minded and pragmatic attorney with experience developing Go-to-Market strategies and leading a team of legal professionals. The team’s mission is to ‘make contracting easy and scalable to help Canva achieve its crazy big goals’.

In this role, you will report into the Group Lead, supporting our Sales team with contracting for our recently launched Canva Enterprise product in particular, as well as Canva for Education, and partnering with Canva’s GTM teams to develop strategies to support their initiatives.

What you’ll do:

  • Scale and enhance Canva’s contracting strategy for Canva Enterprise, including Canva’s contract package and enablement for Canva’s sales and success teams, and Canva’s customers
  • Stay up to date and provide guidance on emerging trends that impact enterprise contracting
  • Help build and lead a team that is responsible for reviewing and negotiating contracts with Canva Enterprise and Canva for Education customers
  • Provide pragmatic, business-minded guidance on customer and contract-related issues at Canva
  • Collaborate with partners in Sales, Product, Finance, Security, Trust and Safety, and Product & Privacy Legal to support GTM initiatives such as: how to interact with enterprise prospects, giving customers the confidence they need to use Canva’s AI functionality, efficiently selling to the public sector, and supporting finance to enable proper revenue recognition and accounting.
  • Maintain a culture of self-service where possible, meaning you and your team can focus on the complex legal matters!

You're probably a match if:

  • You have extensive commercial and contracting legal expertise, with Sales as your primary stakeholder
  • You have prior experience in a technology company (preferably SaaS based)
  • You have a Law degree with admission to at least one state bar
  • You are excited to roll up your sleeves, learn the business and proactively identify and analyze opportunities and risks.
  • You have experience managing a team of lawyers
  • You are solutions focused, risk aware, not risk averse.
  • You are a collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills and a collegial attitude.
  • You are able to prioritize and effectively set and balance expectations.

What's in it for you?

At Canva we value fairness, and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation whilst ensuring internal equity within the team in each region. We make hiring decisions based on your skills, experience and our overall assessment of what we observed and learnt in the hiring process.

Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard - and we do - but you'll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a stack of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work.

Here's a taste of what's on offer:

• Equity packages - we want our success to be yours too

• Health benefits plans to support you and your wellbeing

• 401(k) retirement plan with company contribution

• Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents & carers

• An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support your wellbeing, social connection, office setup & more

• Flexible leave options that empower you to be a force for good, take time to recharge and supports you personally
