Job description

Codeworks is an IT Services firm headquartered in SE Wisconsin, known for our strong commitment to quality and for our direct client relationships.

Who We Are Looking For: We are seeking a collaborative SQL Server Database Systems Engineer who excels in a team environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server and MSBI components, along with skills in Ansible and automation tools. This is an on site position in the Greater Milwaukee WI Area, long term contract, contract to hire potential.

Summary: As a SQL Server Database Systems Engineer, you will engineer and support database systems through analysis, design, development, and implementation. You will be responsible for ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability of database environments while focusing on infrastructure availability and automation.

Responsibilities:

Database Administration: Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of SQL Server databases, including MSBI components (SSAS, SSIS, SSRS).

High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Implement and manage SQL Server Always On Availability Groups (AOAG) and other HADR solutions.

Automation and Scripting: Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Ansible, and other tools to streamline database management tasks.

Database Migrations: Plan and execute database upgrades and migrations with minimal downtime.

Performance Tuning: Monitor and optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, and resource management.

Backup and Recovery: Develop and implement robust backup and recovery procedures.

Security Management: Ensure database security through best practices and compliance adherence.

Monitoring and Maintenance: Proactively monitor production databases, observe key metrics, set up automated alerts, and perform regular health checks.

Collaboration: Work collaboratively with application development teams to support deployment and maintenance.

Mentorship: Share knowledge and mentor junior team members, fostering continuous learning.

Incident Response: Act as a point of escalation for complex database issues, providing expert-level troubleshooting and resolution.

Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum of 10 years administering SQL Server databases and MSBI components.

Expertise with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups (AOAG).

Advanced scripting skills with PowerShell, Ansible, or similar tools.

Proficient in database migrations and upgrades.

Hands-on experience with MSBI components (SSAS/SSIS/SSRS).

Strong understanding of Windows Server administration.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Familiarity with Hashicorp Vault and/or CyberArk for SQL Server access.

Experience with Atlassian’s Jira for agile feature and story creation.

Knowledge of AWS, Azure, or other cloud environments, including RDS and Azure SQL Database.

Experience with Delphix for database virtualization and other relevant technologies.
