Description

Chair of Faculty Development

AOEU is seeking a dynamic and innovative leader for the Chair of Faculty Development position, dedicated to fostering the professional growth and support of our faculty. This role is integral to enhancing student engagement and improving learning outcomes through effective observation, feedback, and comprehensive professional development programs, as well as collaborative team-building strategies.

The Chair will oversee a diverse range of projects related to instructional practices and faculty management. This position requires an integration of best practices in higher education, the design of distance learning tailored for adult learners, and the promotion of a culture of continuous assessment. By utilizing observation and feedback, the Chair will drive systemic improvements and actively contribute to organization-wide initiatives, ensuring a rigorous, relevant, and engaging educational experience for adult learners.

POSITION DETAILS

Structured as a remote full-time, salaried position. This position will report to the Dean of Graduate Studies.

We have been a 100% remote company since the beginning!  This position is eligible to remote work from the following locations: USA.

The Details 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Instruction (30%)

  • Deliver approximately 18 credit hours of instruction annually.
  • Instructional responsibilities will be assigned based on institutional needs and may vary according to seasonal demands and instructional growth.

Faculty Management (40%)

  • Supervise and provide ongoing support to faculty, fostering their professional growth and success.
  • Monitor faculty engagement in active courses to ensure a high-quality student experience and assess faculty efficacy.  
  • Ensure programmatic compliance with internal and external regulations.
  • Maintain accurate faculty records and documentation. 
  • Develop, manage, and maintain the faculty schedule.

Faculty Leadership (30%)

  • Provide leadership and strategic guidance to instructional staff, coordinating training initiatives to enhance instructional effectiveness.
  • Develop data-informed models that support faculty planning such as scheduling, hiring, and professional development. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in the academic division to develop and implement innovative instructional practices.
  • Lead the faculty hiring process, including application review, candidate interviews, and onboarding.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations for associate professors and adjunct instructors.
  • Prepare and maintain accreditation-related materials, specific to instruction. 
  • Oversee the creation and management of instructional handbooks to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Design and lead engaging professional development opportunities for faculty, and departmental support staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Exceptional organizational skills, adept at managing multiple projects concurrently while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Proficient in both verbal and written communication, ensuring clarity and effectiveness in all interactions.
  • Strong collaborative abilities, fostering productive professional relationships and teamwork.
  • Familiarity with CRM or database management systems, web applications, word processing, spreadsheets, and data input procedures.
Position Requirements

EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a K-12 environment is required, ideally spanning both K-8 and secondary levels. Art Education experience preferred. 
  • 3+ or more years of instructional experience at the post-secondary level preferred
  • Leadership experience in educational administration, particularly in coaching and mentoring classroom educators, is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting masters-level action research preferred.
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
  • Terminal degree in Education, Art Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership or similar required (Ph. D., Ed. D., Ed. S.)

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to view computer screens for significant periods of time. The Art of Education University is an online university therefore 95-98% of one’s time will be on or using technology.
  • Ability to use a laptop keyboard with accuracy.
  • Ability to hear at normal levels and through electronic devices such as laptops, earbuds, phones, and the like.

COMPENSATION

Compensation is commensurate with experience and market. We encourage you to discuss your compensation requirements early in the process. 

The Process

For most roles, the process is as follows: 

  • Step 1: ~30-minute phone interview with the hiring manager
  • Step 2: Round 2 packet & Interview
    • Given that AOEU is 100% remote, this step is intended to see how you might work through some of the daily tasks, responsibilities, and challenges that could arise in this role. You will be given a prompt and be asked to complete an assignment which will then be used to guide a ~1 hour follow-up Zoom interview with 1-2 stakeholders. The intention is for you to get a sense of the role and give us an opportunity to see your skills in action. Your answers will not be used for any other purposes beyond evaluating your candidacy.
  • Step 3: Follow-up interview
    • For certain managerial or high-collaboration roles, you may be asked to participate in an additional Zoom interview.
