Job Summary:

As a Project Accountant, you will ensure the accurate and timely entry and reporting of financial data within the company’s systems. Your key responsibilities will include managing accounts receivable, subcontractor payments, payroll processing, equipment time tracking, accounts payable, and supporting month-end close activities. You will collaborate closely with management and project teams to guarantee data accuracy, timeliness, and completeness. Essential responsibilities:

  • Implement and manage effective project cost control systems
  • Understand and communicate project contractual and commercial terms
  • Provide leadership with accurate cost reporting and strategic insights
  • Contribute to the development and execution of collective agreements
  • Coordinate the collection and submission of invoicing documentation (e.g., statutory declarations, WCB clearance letters)
  • Prepare and submit LEMs (Labour, Equipment, and Materials reports) to clients
  • Collect and validate third-party invoices to support client billings
  • Prepare progress billings, invoices, and holdback releases
  • Process electronic billing submissions and reconcile with client billing systems
  • Collaborate with clients to resolve payment issues and assist in payment collection
  • Extract and process equipment usage data for weekly/monthly reports
  • Monitor outside rental agreements and ensure compliance with contracts
  • Coordinate with field teams and payroll to ensure timely time entry completion
  • Support project managers in identifying potential change orders
  • Oversee subcontractor management
  • Prepare month-end journal entries

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Must have a post-secondary business degree
  • Must have Experience within commercial construction, Telecom or a related industry is preferred
  • Must have knowledge of JD Edwards or similar large ERP is preferred
  • Working knowledge of construction methods
  • Financial acumen regarding equipment utilization, rates, equipment capital decisions, and profitability analysis
  • Working knowledge of construction accounting principles
  • Working knowledge of construction software systems
  • Strong analytical skills and problem solving
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

  • This position offers work from home options with the understanding that at times you may be required to attend the office or travel to the project site as business needs require
