Vistra seeks an experienced Communications Specialist to provide public relations and communications support to the Department of Defense’s (DOD) Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (OUSD P&R) and the Defense Suicide Prevention Office (DSPO0. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in communications strategy and development. This role requires the ability to engage in promoting or creating and intended public image for individuals, groups, or organizations.  


 Key Responsibilities: 

  • Communication Materials: Develop communication materials, including messaging and graphics for presentations, infographics, and reports for Defense Suicide Prevention Office (DSPO) initiatives, pilot programs, research areas, and communication efforts, as well as outreach materials. 
  • Strat Comm Implementation Plan: Gather and consolidate input from government staff and develop, track, and execute a Government approved strategic communication program, to include plans and tactics, measurable and trackable key performance indicators (KPIs), message development and testing, timelines, outreach techniques, stakeholders, target audiences. 
  • Branding Guide and Quarterly Updates: Support development of a style guide for communication materials and update for content change on a quarterly basis.  
  • 508 Compliance: Ensure Section 508 compliance for all communications materials in any format that could be placed on a website or online application or intended for electronic distribution.   
  • Professional Correspondence: Develop, coordinate, and execute professional correspondence, including information papers, presentations, technical reports, briefing slides, briefing cards, and other routine communication materials. 
  • Monthly Social Media Editorial Calendar: Create a monthly social media editorial calendar of future posts, tweets, and blogs and provide to government for approval no later than ten (10) business days prior to scheduled posts; post approved content to DSPO social media channels. 
  • Media Monitoring and Response Plan: Develop Media Monitoring and Response Plan(s), including a weekly report of all media within the current (24 hour) news cycle related to suicide. Email a weekly report of media stories within the current (24 hour) news cycle to a DSPO-specified email address utilizing a format provided by the Government. 
  • Suicide Awareness Month Campaign: Develop annual Suicide Prevention Month Campaign, including theme and slogan, branding, timeline and milestone(s), output(s) and outcome(s), audience and partner(s), content, dissemination, and platform(s).  
  • Strat Comm Strategies and Evaluation: Assist with the development of communications strategies and evaluations for DSPO.
