The opportunity

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a student employee to fill the role of Assistant to the Program Director for Breakthrough Manchester at the Derryfield School in Manchester, NH. Breakthrough Manchester is an intensive, year-round academic enrichment program for promising middle school students, many of whom will be the first in their families to attain a college degree. The classes at Breakthrough are taught by outstanding high school and college students who are our teacher interns. At Breakthrough, we strive to cultivate a community of teachers, students, and leaders through academic and exploratory classes, college field trips, and team-building activities. The candidate will support logistical and clerical office operations; work with Program Director to keep office records sorted, filed and recorded; help prepare for all trainings and meetings. They will also work with Director of Philanthropy and Communications to complete acknowledgement letters, create designs for newsletters, social media posts, etc.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Managing and supporting various aspects of this non-profit educational organization.
  • Assisting with clerical duties
  • Management of confidential data and academic information
  • Special event planning and preparation
  • Assisting with teacher training events and program sessions
  • Leading or collaborating on administrative and communications projects
  • Supporting logistical aspects of once-per-month Saturday programming

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in classes as part of a SNHU degree program
  • Work study part of financial aid package
  • Students with work study may be prioritized
  • Reliable transportation
  • Outstanding record of academic and professional achievements and is very organized and self-motivated.
  • Effective verbal and written communication as well as social media posting skills are important.
  • Proficiency with the Google Suite of applications required.
  • We are seeking someone who is sensitive to issues that affect access to higher education, is open and accepting of people of all backgrounds and who aligns with Breakthrough’s mission statement.

Learning Outcomes:

Student can expect to grow skills in organization of materials, self time management, leadership, written communication, and media design. Office, clerical and design skills (Canva) will be strengthened. There are also opportunities to lead other students through trainings and events, practicing public speaking and leadership skills. Student will learn about non-profit organizations, specifically those focusing on educational equity.

Work Schedule:
Flexible within the hours of 8-4, Monday through Friday; Occasional Wednesday evenings, 5-8pm; Occasional Saturdays, 9-2pm

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
