The Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia (UPTC) have requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as an English Education Specialist. UPTC has each identified as a priority to deliver high-quality project-based learning sessions aiming at solving real-world and personally meaningful challenges and problems while raising students’ cultural awareness of contemporary USA for students, integrating English language use through Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), considering students’ individual learning styles, socio-cultural and socio-educational context.

The PCRV will design and facilitate teacher workshops to provide teachers with the knowledge to prepare and guide students to apply desired problem-based learning skills working independently, with peers or as a part of a team, critical thinking, communication, decision-making and creativity. The PCRV will also create, revise and adapt English teaching materials and resources for teachers and students and participate in and facilitate Communities of Practice with English teachers and teachers of other subjects who will deliver content in English.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Colombia together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, with a focus on teaching English or foreign languages
  • At least 4 years of experience teaching bilingual education, TEFL, ESL, and/or EFL at a primary, secondary or university level.
  • Experience in training of trainers or teachers.
  • Minimum B1 or advanced intermediate spoken and written Spanish at time of arrival in Colombia.
  • Comfortable using and learning technology, and in hosting and facilitating virtual events or workshops on Zoom, Teams and other platforms.
  • Exceptional intercultural and interpersonal skills, flexible, adaptable, creative and willing to work in teams and independently.
  • High tolerance for ambiguity and high level of flexibility
