Job description

Project description

The Ministry of General Education (MoGE) in Zambia has requested the support of Peace Corps Response Volunteers to work closely at the district-level and with other key stakeholders to implement Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) curriculum in schools. The HIV/AIDS Education Facilitator PCRVs will work with the Ministry of Education and teachers at selected DREAMS schools in order to support the successful roll out of evidence-based, culturally relevant and age-appropriate CSE, for girls and boys in grades 5-12. The PCRVs will host workshops to bring teachers from targeted schools together to learn about CSE and the DREAMS program within their district and gain skills on how CSE can be integrated in day to day lessons.

The PCRVs will support the roll-out of the CSE National Framework by conducting project start-up activities, which are critical to successful implementation. Additionally, they will be expected to establish working relationships with district MoGE officials, mapping and assessing government schools in DREAMS zones, and conducting focus groups at schools to determine progress of CSE roll-out. As needed, the PCRVs will assist with facilitating the distribution of CSE materials and resources to schools that have not yet received them and identify additional opportunities for school-based support and interventions to complement CSE curriculum, such as working with the guidance counselor to offer regular sessions focused on life skills, integrating messages of HIV-prevention into existing extra-curricular school groups, bringing together teachers from different schools to share challenges and lessons learned. The goal of this assignment is to train and support teachers and MoGE district-level leadership in the CSE curriculum and strengthen referral systems of adolescent girls and young women from schools to clinical and community health services and safe spaces.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Zambia together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
