Job description

About Take Command

Take Command is a start-up on a mission to improve the healthcare system, starting with health insurance. Pragmatically speaking, we help employers reimburse employees for individual insurance instead of offering a traditional one-size-fits-all group plan. We believe this model can empower employees (when they have the right support) to be savvy healthcare consumers and have a transformative impact on the entire healthcare system.

Let’s be honest—health insurance is usually a confusing, frustrating, and even emotional experience for people. We want to fix that with a new model, great technology, and a superior user experience. We have made a great start, but we need your help to fully realize our long-term vision.

About the VP of Marketing Role

We’re seeking a seasoned and strategic marketing leader to join our senior leadership team as the Vice President of Marketing. This role is pivotal in shaping and driving our marketing vision and strategy as we aim to disrupt the healthcare industry. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will oversee all facets of our marketing efforts, from brand positioning and go-to-market strategies to lead generation and product marketing. You will be expected to lead with both high-level strategic insight and hands-on tactical execution.

In this role, you will:

  • Strategize and Lead: Develop and refine comprehensive marketing strategies that align with our overall business objectives. You will present these strategies to the board, lead vision-casting sessions, and ensure that our marketing plans effectively support our growth trajectory.
  • Execute with Precision: Roll up your sleeves to work alongside your team on the execution of key marketing initiatives, including SEO optimization, lead generation, content marketing, branding, and product marketing.
  • Leverage Data and Analytics: Use data-driven insights to inform decisions, optimize campaigns, and identify new opportunities for growth. You will conduct market research, run ad experiments, and monitor key performance metrics to ensure that our marketing efforts are both effective and efficient.
  • Adapt and Innovate: In our fast-paced startup environment, you'll need to balance data-driven decisions with intuition and creativity. You'll be responsible for making informed guesses, iterating on strategies, and pivoting when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and develop a world-class team: Hire, lead and mentor a team of in-house modern marketing professionals and trusted third parties, with a particular initial focus on revenue marketing and brand awareness.
  • Messaging and positioning: Live and breathe our market, partners and customers to continually refine corporate and product brand identity and messaging that conveys value, sustainable competitive advantages and corporate culture. Develop and execute upon a content marketing strategy that serves thought leadership, product and revenue marketing objectives.
  • Marketing strategies and disciplines: With Sales, prioritize and define target verticals by and across markets, addressable account bases, buyer and user personas and the customer journey by segment. Develop account-based strategies and programming for pipeline creation, acceleration and customer expansion to deliver on new bookings and customer growth targets, and user engagement strategies that drive adoption and loyalty. Finalize and implement our annual marketing strategy, with a focus on key periods such as open enrollment.
  • Measurements of success; shared goals and metrics with Sales: Define key metrics and supporting processes in alignment with sales, i.e. acquisition and expansion funnels per segment and channel, obsessing over the tracking and measurement of funnel effectiveness, including ROI of marketing spend.
  • Product marketing and sales enablement: Arm Sales Team with enablement tools that promote sales productivity and effectiveness, and successful new product launches.
  • Automation and technology stack: Assess and optimize current systems and digital channels aligned with sales motion by segment. Champion the effective use of platforms, tools and channels to drive revenue marketing and overall go-to-market strategies, initiatives and objectives.
  • Competitive Analysis: Continuously monitor industry trends and competitor strategies to ensure we maintain a competitive edge.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the VPs of Sales and Operations to identify and prioritize new market opportunities. Collaborate with other internal stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all channels.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 10+ years of relevant marketing experience, with a strong background in marketing leadership. Experience in Series-A startups is a plus.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of building and leading high-performing marketing teams. Experience mentoring mid-level and junior employees is essential.
  • Strategic Vision: Demonstrated ability to develop and execute marketing strategies that drive growth and align with company goals.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in HubSpot, digital marketing, content strategy, data analytics, public relations, and brand marketing.
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience in the healthcare or insurance industry is advantageous but not required.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or a related field is required; an MBA is preferred.
  • Communication: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage with various stakeholders.
