About the role 

Reporting to the CEO, with a dotted line to the Chief Growth Officer, the Commercial Director is a key leadership position responsible for driving revenue generation, business growth, and profitability for The Growth Foundation and its subsidiaries. You will spearhead the commercial development of the business by crafting and executing a robust commercial strategy, ensuring these goals are met through innovative product development, cutting-edge marketing, effective sales strategies to build our new client pipeline, and stellar, peer-group beating client retention.

As a member of the senior leadership team, you will be the go-to expert for all commercial matters, presenting to our Board when required. Your role demands a deep understanding of agency led, financial analysis, risk management, and budgeting to make data-driven decisions that optimise TGF's financial performance across every function.

This is a remote role with regular travel to central London when required.


Responsibilities for the Commercial Director include...

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and execute an agile commercial strategy, with the support of our senior leadership team,that aligns with our consultancy focus, identifying emerging market opportunities and innovative service offerings;
  • Oversight of our senior leadership team, driving a results-oriented culture and maintaining accountability for reaching ambitious growth targets;
  • Collaborate closely with the Board to ensure commercial objectives support overall business goals.

Revenue Generation & Growth:

  • Oversee the development and execution of new client acquisition strategies, with a focus on landing and expanding relationships with high-growth / potential consumer product & service eCommerce & Retail brands to foster Growth Partnership opportunities;
  • Personally manage and nurture relationships with key accounts / potential Growth Partners.

Team Development & Management:

  • Implement effective performance management systems, ensuring clear KPIs and accountability across all commercial functions;
  • Mentor and develop team members, identifying and nurturing future leaders within the organisation.

Market Intelligence & Innovation:

  • Stay at the forefront of consumer product & service DTC eCommerce & Retail trends, leveraging insights to inform our service offerings and go-to-market strategies;
  • Champion the development of thought leadership content that positions TGF as a leading voice in to intrigue and excit our target clients with the support of our PR agency and TGF teammates;
  • Drive the creation of innovative service offerings that address emerging client needs and market opportunities.

Financial Performance & Reporting:

  • Collaborate with the Fractional Head of Finance to optimise commercial operations, ensuring robust financial controls and efficient resource allocation;
  • Develop and present commercial performance reports to the CEO providing strategic insights and recommendations;
  • Drive continuous improvement in key financial metrics including revenue per client and yield on accounts.


Success looks and feels like

Within 6 months...

  • Achieve a 25% increase in overall company revenue compared to the previous half-year;
  • Improve profit margins by 10%, demonstrating effective cost management and revenue optimisation;
  • Secure at least two new client partnerships with an annual contract value of £240k+ each;
  • Launch one innovative service offering that addresses a need with new & incumbent clients / partners;
  • Implement a robust commercial dashboard that provides real-time insights into key performance metrics.

Within 18 months...

  • Deliver consistent quarter-on-quarter revenue growth of at least 15%;
  • Expand our client base into at least one new DTC vertical, contributing 10% to total revenue;
  • Achieve a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 80+ from our client base;
  • Develop and begin implementation of a 3-year commercial strategy that positions TGF as the go-to growth partner for ambitious clients / prospects;
  • Cultivate a high-performing commercial team with an employee engagement score of 85%+;
  • Launch a thought leadership platform (e.g., podcast, event series) that generates measurable brand awareness and client leads.


About you

  • You have a proven track record of driving commercial success within consumer product & service DTC eCommerce & Retail , or growth consultancy sectors;
  • You bring 5+ years of experience in senior commercial roles, with a demonstrable history of scaling businesses and achieving ambitious growth targets;
  • You possess a deep understanding of the consumer product & service DTC eCommerce & Retail landscape, including current trends, challenges, and opportunities facing high-growth brands;
  • You have a data-driven approach to decision-making, with strong analytical skills and the ability to translate insights into actionable strategies;
  • You are an inspiring leader with the ability to build, motivate, and retain high-performing teams in a fast-paced environment;
  • You have excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and persuade at C-suite and Board level;
  • You bring a strong network within the consumer product & service DTC eCommerce & Retail space, with a track record of leveraging relationships to drive business growth;
  • You are commercially astute, with a keen eye for identifying and capitalising on new revenue opportunities;
  • You have a consultative sales approach, with the ability to understand complex client needs and craft tailored solutions;
  • You are adaptable and resilient, thriving in a dynamic environment and able to pivot strategies in response to market changes;
  • You have a growth mindset, constantly seeking to learn and innovate in the ever-evolving DTC landscape;
