Job Description Summary
The Red Hat Australia and New Zealand Services team is looking for an Associate Principal Architect to join us. In this role, you will help us ensure that our engagements are not just a technology implementation, but an organizational transformation. As an Associate Principal Architect, you will serve as the lead architect in our engagements, cocreating innovative solutions using emerging open source technology and modern solution design methods in an agile environment. You’ll coach the team and facilitate the design and technical delivery of our solutions, and become the customer trusted advisor by demonstrating thought leadership. As you do so, you’ll create enthusiasm for building great software using principles of open source and agile culture. You'll support everything from the scoping of the professional services engagement to delivering the engagements and providing technical oversight. You’ll also be heavily involved with account team activities including pre-sales to support discovery, scoping, POC activities in order to help develop a clear vision for our customers. This role ideally suits an experienced senior architect or above, with a passion for coaching teams, design, communication, and delivering complex solutions. Successful applicants must reside in a country where Red Hat is registered to do business.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Deliver successful discovery, analysis, and design workshops for small to medium teams of technical and non-technical backgrounds that shape and influence customer use cases and architecture design decisions
- Scope delivery projects and guide customers through successful pilot and production deployments
- Lead the discovery, architecture, design, and implementation of application prototypes in our delivery of solutions using modern application development practices and emerging open source technologies
- Supports the account team with long term service program knowledge and experience
- Acts as primary interface to the account team from a service projects perspective where there is no project manager assigned
- Drives vision for client for future services needs.
- Understands and operates within the Red Hat business strategy and economic model
- Work as a trusted adviser to our customers and use your critical thinking skills to tackle tough problems in an innovative way - Train and coach team members on technical and non-technical skills
- Present vision, strategy, technology, and roadmaps to executives, technical management, engineers, and operators
- Remain an active coder as this is required during our engagements and maintain deep direct technical knowledge of container management systems (CMSs), application infrastructure, architectures, and development solutions
- Support presales and post-sales field teams during workshops, proofs of concepts, pilots, and production deployments
- Actively contribute to and guide the creation of reference architectures, design considerations, and best practices
- Assist in the development of standard reusable consulting service offerings, including the definition of tasks, deliverables, and standard estimates
- Continuously and confidently communicates with c-level stakeholders about the work of the entire projects they belong to
Required Skills
- 10+ years of experience working as a consulting architect, or in similar roles
- Proven experience architecting, designing, and developing complex customer solutions in a rapidly evolving technology environment - experience facilitating solution design, architecture, and ideation sessions
- Ability to perform customer-facing activities in a fast-paced environment with short timeframes
- Ability to uncover business challenges and develop custom solutions to solve these challenges
- Demonstrated ability to lead a technical project, including collaborating on project timelines and maintaining project and technical documentation
- Experience with Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) cloud solutions, including Red Hat's OpenShift Container Platform and and VMware infrastructure cloud solutions; experience with container technologies such as Docker, Podman, and Kubernetes
- Experience with or working knowledge of Ansible automation
- Experience with Linux system administration, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or a derivative
- Experience with configuration management, application deployment, and infrastructure orchestration technologies
- Ability to identify stakeholder needs and set expectations regarding project timelines and scope of work
- Clear understanding of cloud service and deployment models
- Comfortable working with highly distributed teams, including interaction with open source communities
- Ability to study on your own, learn quickly, and put new knowledge into practice
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills in English
- Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related technical discipline
- Willingness to travel up to 30% to customer locations throughout ANZ and also globally on occasion, following Red Hat’s COVID-19 guidelines
The Following Will Be Considered a Plus
- Working with some community technologies like Argo CD, Tekton Pipelines, Helm, or Jenkins
- Working with application and infrastructure monitoring
- VMware cloud solution architecture
