Principal Project Manager

Salary Range

Principal Project Manager, Grade 15, $106,622.53 - $149,271.53 per fiscal year, commensurate with experience.

As a Principal Project Manager, you will partner with senior leadership and key leaders to deliver enterprise-scale, mission critical projects on time and on budget. This individual must have excellent communication and relationship-building skills and thrive in a fast-paced environment where cross-functional leadership is key to solving complex problems.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project lifecycle management and delivery.
  • Responsible for the end-to-end management of large, organization wide projects and is accountable for the project scope, schedule, budget, resources, change management, and overall quality of project delivery.
  • Leads project sponsor and stakeholders across all phases of the project lifecycle including initiation, planning, execution, risk mitigation, monitoring and control, and closure.
  • Identify and structure work streams for key initiatives, works with project team to organize solution roadmaps and reach critical milestones.
  • Effectively collaborates with team to mitigate risks and proactively supports planned and/or unplanned needs.
  • Manages ongoing deliverables and determines appropriate priority of day-to-day tasks.
  • Partners with business leaders to provide training for implemented projects.
  • Serves as primary resource to project team to remove obstacles, provide solutions, and coach team members to achieve project objectives.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with vendor partners.
  • Oversees dependencies across all active projects.
  • Manages multiple projects concurrently.
  • Documentation and communication
  • Manages and communicates all project work streams to ensure project meets delivery requirements, timeframes, and budget.
  • Communicates and presents information effectively to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Adheres to PMO project methodology including all proper documentation, status reports, meeting minutes, issue logs and any other documentation related to the management of projects.
  • Works with PMO to create and maintain standards for Sourcewell’s software development life cycle.
  • Establishes and manages cross-functional relationships between all areas of the business.
  • Establish and maintain project management software tool standards to manage project documentation, communication, and progress tracking.
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Provide input on improvement opportunities to optimize time and efficiency of project teams.
  • Stays informed and educated on changing technologies, frameworks, and project management best practices.
  • Act as a mentor/lead/role model.
  • Serve as a mentor to other project managers, supporting growth and development.
  • Be an ambassador for PMO lifecycle best practices, educating others, serving as a role model, and encouraging practices to follow.
  • Provide guidance on complex issues, unique situations, and project challenges.
  • Participates in releases as necessary, including outside of traditional work hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field AND a minimum of ten years’ experience managing technical projects in an e-commerce, web development, or other complex mission critical business system OR
  • A combination of IT related post-secondary and/or professional education and demonstrated relevant work experience managing technical projects in an e-commerce, web development, or other complex mission critical business system equivalent to a total of fourteen years.
  • Ten years’ experience with some the following project management tools: Azure DevOps, JIRA, and Smartsheets.
  • Seven years’ experience with various software development approaches including agile and waterfall.
  • Three years’ experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery.
  • Strong business process/operational knowledge (e.g., customer service, inventory management, procurement, accounting)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in information technology or related field and fourteen years’ experience managing technical projects in an e-commerce, web development, or other complex mission critical business system.
  • Twelve years’ experience with some the following project management tools: Azure DevOps, JIRA, and Smartsheets.
  • Nine years’ experience with various software development approaches including agile and waterfall.
  • PMP or CAPM Certification.
