Job Description

Oracle Labs’ Graal team develops innovative Java technologies including GraalVM and GraalVM Native Image, the Graal Development Kit for Micronaut, and upcoming cloud native Oracle Cloud Infrastructure services. We seek a top-notch, senior technical writer with extensive Java knowledge and experience in creating technical documentation that include real-world examples and scenarios. As a member of the Graal technical content team, you will have significant influence on technical content strategy in all areas.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as Technical Writer, Technical Editor, Content Strategist, or similar role
    • Upper Intermediate/Advanced level in English, both spoken and written
    • Hands-on knowledge of Markdown/AsciiDoc markup languages
    • Experience documenting highly complex engineering environments
    • Ability to establish and follow content style and usage guidelines
    • Strong drafting, copy editing, and proofreading expertise
    • Good attention to detail
    • Analytical thinking and content architecture skills
  • Experience with project management software such as Atlassian, including Jira issue tracking system and Confluence collaboration tool for sharing the information, or similar
  • Experience using distributed source code management systems, such as Git
  • Strong team player with outstanding communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable with agile, swiftly changing, dynamic software development situations
  • Ability to work independently within large and globally distributed software development organization.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar)
  • Familiarity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (or any cloud) products
  • Experience with frontend languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Experience with structured writing, such as DITA
  • Bitbucket and GitHub knowledge, and at least a cursory understanding of the entire development (CI/CD) pipeline process

Responsibilities

  • Deliver accurate developer-facing content on time and with a high degree of quality
    • API documentation, user guides, release notes, blog posts, reference manuals, white papers, and so on
  • Review and/or copyedit content developed by other members of the team
  • Work closely with other team members to ensure consistency
  • Contribute to polishing the in-house documentation standards, practices, and procedures
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives around authoring environments and automation tooling
  • Provide documentation for new emerging Oracle Cloud services based on GraalVM
  • Expand the existing documentation base
  • Design graphics and diagrams to simplify complex concepts (optional)

Canada: Hiring Range from $66,700 - $145,000 CAD per year

US: Hiring Range: from $37.50 - $85.67 per hour; from $78,000 - $178,200 per year. May be eligible for equity.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
