Job Brief

We are seeking a Data Engineer to join our cross-functional software team and drive our data-centric initiatives. You'll build and maintain a robust data infrastructure that empowers our R&D, pilot, and business intelligence activities. Your role is crucial in unlocking the full potential of our data assets across all departments, creating leverage by making all teams more efficient.

Reporting to our Software Engineer, you'll initially focus on laboratory and pilot data, with a vision to integrate data from all aspects of our operations. This role is remote with an option to work from our Oakland, California office.

Key Focus Areas of the role may include:
  • Build and own robust end-to-end data pipelines, going from ingestion to end user consumption.
  • Manage required data infrastructure improvements as the engineering team scales up operations.
  • Design and implement error handling strategies and data quality checks.
  • Collaborate with other teams to identify opportunities to leverage data to improve efficiency.
  • Identify data gaps and work with stakeholders to resolve them.
  • Communicate data insights and usage strategies to other teams.

  • For this role, we’re looking for:
  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience as a software or data engineer
  • Proficiency with Python, SQL, and Git
  • Experience building scalable software systems and robust data pipelines
  • Experience with relational databases, such as PostgreSQL
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a clean codebase and relational database schema
  • Strong analytical and communication skills

  • Additional skills that are preferred but not required:
  • Experience with cloud platforms, CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code (AWS and Pulumi)
  • Familiarity with data orchestration platforms (Dagster)
  • Web development skills to work full-stack on our internal tools in collaboration with our Software Engineer (React)
  • Knowledge of experimental/chemical data, data visualization, and/or machine learning concepts
  • Prior experience supporting software or data engineering for a scientific company

  • Compensation, Benefits, and Perks
  • Salary range for this role is $145,000 - 170,000 per year
  • Company equity
  • 401k retirement plan with 3% company contribution
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents
  • Mental health benefits
  • Generous paid time off policy
  • 12-weeks of parental leave
  • A fun, diverse, and talented team focused on making the biggest impact possible on climate change
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
