Job description

Position Overview

The Senior Network Engineer (Analyst) ensures the stability and integrity of in-house data, security, and wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. In addition, the Senior Network Engineer will participate in the selection, installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion.

Position Location & Work Format 

Given the nature of this role, this role will require the employee to work a hybrid (combination of onsite and remote/work-from-home) schedule from our Hastings, Michigan corporate offices.  In addition, this role requires the individual to be able to respond to any incidents at our offices within 60 minutes during on-call periods. Generally, this role will work within our standard business hours of Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. 

Position Duties & Responsibilities
  • Designs and deploys company LANs and wireless networks, including routers, switches, appliances, and other hardware.
  • Configures networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Monitors network performance and troubleshoots problem areas as needed.
  • Collaborates with executive management and department leaders to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.
  • Creates and maintains documentation as it relates to network configurations, network mappings, processes, and service records.
  • Ensures network connectivity of all servers, workstations, and other network appliances.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
  • Conducts research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
  • Practices network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Monitors and tests network performance and provides network performance statistics and reports.
  • Participates in managing all network security solutions.
  • Interacts with vendors and contractors to secure network products and services.
  • Maintains high availability for the corporate network.
  • Provides on-call availability 24/7 for network performance problems.
  • Actively participates in professional development, i.e., continuing education or self-improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned by leadership, either verbally or in writing.
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • CCNA certification or equivalent experience (network specifically)
  • Experience with:
    • Administration of Cisco, Juniper, or equivalent enterprise equipment

    • Utilizing Command Line Interface (CLI)

    • Next-Generation Firewalls (IDS/IPS/NAC/WAF)

    • Layer 2 and 3 Protocols

  • Experience working in a switched and routed environment.
  • Hardware, software, and network connection troubleshooting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of network management and analysis tools.
  • Working technical knowledge of current network hardware.
  • Knowledge of anti-virus software, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and other network security measures.
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Good written, verbal, and communication skills.
