Job Overview:

Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for a Network Engineer to join our Cloud Services team. You will be instrumental in recommending, designing, implementing, and maintaining the following: network architectures (VPN, LAN, WAN, Public Cloud), server and serverless infrastructure (Windows, Linux, GKE), infrastructure monitoring/management solutions (DataDog and OpManager), and Disaster Recovery/High Availability solutions.

 

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Assist with the management of AWS/Azure/Google third-party Cloud infrastructures and technologies
  • Routing knowledge covering BGP/EIGRP
  • Construct and maintain documented standards for implementing and configuring Applied Cloud infrastructure
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal stakeholders to create
    optimal cloud environments and configurations for Applied Cloud product
  • Participate in the on-call rotation schedule
  • Ability to work after hours and weekends when required and/or necessary
  • Define and implement best practices to support disaster recovery of the Applied Cloud infrastructure
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the Cloud Services team
  • Develop and document workflows/procedures used by all Cloud Services staff when assisting customers
  • Manage and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) in GCP, AWS, and Azure using IaaS models
  • Work with vendors and other third-party teams to evaluate their products and services
  • Identify, communicate, and help to implement improvements in the work process for customers and peers
  • Stays abreast of changes in Applied Systems’ software, technology, and the industry
  • Utilize CDKTF, Terraform, HCL, and Typescript code to write/code for IaC, and Terraform modules, and enhance functionality utilizing a CI/CD pipelines
  • Check code, scripts, modules, etc. into GitLab and maintain them as required
  • Create, deploy, and approve IaC/Application GitLab merge requests as required
  • Participate in team meetings and maintain open and continuous communication with your peers and leadership in your areas of responsibility
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate manager or management team
  • Develop and maintain operational tools for deployment, monitoring, and analysis of across both on-prem and cloud environments
  • Ability to program in Python as scalable and maintainable code
  • Continuously look for ways to improve the performance, availability, and security of the Applied Cloud
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate manager or management team

 

What You’ll Need to Succeed

 

We’re looking for someone who: 

  • Can work remotely or from an Applied Systems office.

Your experience should include some or all of the following: 

 

  • 5-7+ years of directly related work experience and/or an equivalent combination
  • Have experience in developing in both on-prem data centers (VMWare, F5, Netapp) as well as Cloud APIs across GCP, AWS, Azure
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD Pipelines, and Scripting languages (Terraform/Ansible/Python/Typescript)
  • Strong foundation in server and network performance monitoring and troubleshooting
  • Understanding of core IT system technologies and Cloud platforms
  • The ability to handle many high-priority and complex tasks/projects simultaneously
  • The ability to work with deadlines and complete work in a timely manner
  • Ability to make accurate decisions based on past knowledge and experience, technical problem solving as well as all defined policies and procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong technical product and environment understanding

 

Additionally, you may have:

  • Strong exposure to both vendor hardware solutions (F5, Cisco, CloudFlare) as well as GCP network management and services
  • Experience solving difficult problems with scalable, elegant, and maintainable solutions
  • Excellent organization skills and keen attention to detail
  • The ability to analyze and to prioritize complex situations and risks
  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
