Editor - Advanced Sciences (Oncology)

About the role:

The Editor is entrusted with the strategic development and execution of initiatives aimed at growing Wiley’s Advanced brand within the disciplines of Oncology and Immunology. With an extensive global network, the Editor serves as a dedicated ambassador and advocate for Wiley’s Advanced brand in the sectors of Oncology and Immunology.

This role is pivotal for the advancement and expansion of a critically important brand, ensuring alignment with and achievement of the companys strategic goals and objectives. The Editor/Deputy Editor is tasked with converting strategic visions into actionable plans, identifying and seizing opportunities to meet the targets set for Research Publishing. In close collaboration with the marketing team, they will devise and implement a range of brand-enhancing events and initiatives aimed at both short-term and long-term success.

The Editor will concentrate on enriching the content and elevating the brand profile of Advanced Science, effectively directing excess submissions to relevant clusters within Wileys Life and Health Sciences portfolio. Additionally, as the Advanced brand is built, the Editor/Deputy Editor will launch one or more new spin off titles in the relevant subjects and oversee the management of the Advanced spin off titles.

By actively engaging with research communities, the Editor is committed to commissioning high-quality papers, extending the brands influence, and forging positive, collaborative relationships with leading researchers. They approach their work with an understanding of the needs of both external and internal stakeholders, driving forward initiatives that connect with top-tier research talents.

The Editor will provide regular updates to the Senior Manager on community engagement efforts and journal development progress. These reports will include evidence of the impact made by the Advanced Science Oncology and Immunology initiatives and demonstrate the successful delivery of strategic goals. They will also outline programs and strategies designed to attract and retain authors, as well as to enhance the growth of high-quality content within Advanced Science and across the entire portfolio.

How you will make an impact:

  • Develop Advanced Brand in Oncology and Immunology to increase quality submissions and published output
  • Drive impact of the Advanced brand into Oncology and Immunology:
  • Manuscript handling
  • Works on one or more titles as Deputy Editor and/or Editor
  • Manages titles within a team of in-house editors, subject-level cluster strategy.
  • Lead generation and ideas for subject-related products passed on to appropriate colleagues.

What we look for:

  • PhD in related field, post-doctoral experience would be ideal
  • Have manuscript handling experience (prescreening, peer review, final decision, appeals and integrity cases).
  • Subject-Matter Expertise (academic)
  • Displays high integrity and honesty 
  • Able to build relationships and credibility with authors, editorial board and wider community 
  • Takes a strategic perspective and sets exciting vision and direction for journals with other handling editors 
  • Result-driven with strong focus on article output growth
  • Excellent command of English(to scientific and professional proficiency).
  • Able to travel (internationally).
