Surgical Directions is seeking a highly skilled perioperative nurse leader to spearhead a transformational improvement project within our healthcare organization. The successful candidate will lead and facilitate various workstreams and project improvement teams to enhance efficiency, quality, and patient outcomes across perioperative services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitation of Workstreams: Lead and facilitate multidisciplinary workstreams and improvement teams to drive transformative change initiatives within perioperative services, and non-operating room area’s (NORA), focusing on improving first case on-time starts, reducing room turnover time, maximizing department utilization, and enhancing patient throughput.
  • Pre-Anesthesia Testing Coordination: Collaborate with healthcare teams to coordinate pre-anesthesia testing processes, ensuring patients are adequately prepared for procedural care.  
  • Change Management: Implement effective change management strategies to navigate organizational shifts and overcome resistance to change, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Provide visionary leadership, mentorship, and coaching to staff and leaders, fostering professional growth and collaboration.
  • Supply Chain Management: Partner with facility resources to optimize supply chain processes and inventory management to ensure availability of necessary equipment and resources for procedures. 
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to strategic planning initiatives to align perioperative and NORA services with organizational goals, objectives, and growth strategies. 
  • Quality and Safety Measures: Implement quality and safety measures to ensure the hospital complies with regulatory and organizational requirements, safeguarding patient care standards and enhancing overall quality outcomes in perioperative and NORA services.
  • Operational Efficiency: Drive operational efficiency initiatives across all perioperative and NORA departments, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies to streamline workflows, reduce waste, and enhance resource utilization.
  • Staffing Optimization: Utilize data analytics and operational metrics to optimize staffing levels, ensuring appropriate staffing coverage while minimizing costs and maintaining high-quality patient care.
  • Workflow Improvement: Collaborate with perioperative and NORA department leaders to standardize and improve workflow processes in every department, fostering consistency, efficiency, and quality of care delivery throughout the perioperative  and non-operating room continuum.
  • Clinical Partnership: Work closely with clinical partners at hospitals to drive operational improvement initiatives and ensure seamless coordination of perioperative services and non-operating room areas such as endoscopy, interventional radiology, and labor and delivery. 
  • Change Management Programs: Facilitate change management programs to drive adoption of new processes and practices aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and operational efficiency. 
  • Patient Readiness Improvement: Improve patient readiness in hospitals to drive optimal patient outcomes through proactive coordination and preparation measures.
  • Barriers Identification and Solutions: Identify barriers and partner with stakeholders to develop and implement viable solutions for sustainable change and continuous improvement.
  • Predictive Analytics Utilization: Utilize predictive analytics and data-driven insights to recommend optimal staffing levels, resource allocation, and operational strategies within perioperative and NORA services.
  • Surgeon Collaboration: Collaborate with surgeons and surgeon offices to improve access to the operating room, enhance surgical and procedural scheduling efficiency, and optimize workflows. 
  • Sterile Processing Improvement: Drive initiatives to improve sterile processing practices, ensuring compliance with standards and fostering sustainable change for enhanced patient safety and surgical outcomes across perioperative and non-operating room areas. 
  • Preference Card Enhancement: Improve preference card management processes and establish sustainability measures to ensure consistency, accuracy, and efficiency in surgical preparation and execution. 

Qualifications

Education: Registered Nurse (RN) with a current state license. A Master’s degree in Nursing, business or a related field is required.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in perioperative nursing, with specific experience in perioperative management, preference cards, surgery scheduling, budget management, quality improvement, sterile processing, circulating in the operating room, pre-anesthesia testing, labor and delivery, endoscopy and interventional radiology, director level preferred.

  • Leadership and Consulting Skills: Proven experience in leading teams, dealing with a range of healthcare professionals, and managing change in a healthcare setting. Ability to create and deliver impactful presentations.
  • Communication: Consultants must excel in both written and verbal communication to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely to clients and team members. This includes active listening, asking probing questions, and tailoring communication to different audiences.
  • Problem-Solving: Consultants need strong problem-solving skills to identify issues, analyze root causes, and develop effective solutions. This often involves critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to think analytically.
  • Analytical Skills: Consultants must be proficient in data analysis and interpretation to assess business performance, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations. This includes proficiency in tools such as Excel, data visualization software, and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Client Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients is crucial for consultants. This requires empathy, trustworthiness, and the ability to understand clients' needs and concerns.
  • Project Management: Consultants often juggle multiple projects simultaneously, requiring strong project management skills. This includes setting clear objectives, managing timelines and budgets, and coordinating cross-functional teams.
  • Adaptability: The consulting landscape is constantly evolving, requiring consultants to adapt quickly to new environments, industries, and challenges. This includes being open to feedback, learning new skills, and adjusting strategies as needed.
