Position Summary: 

The Associate Embedded Controls Engineer performs an assortment of complex engineering duties in the development, design, and implement of hardware and firmware for embedded systems, ensuring that the project objectives and schedules are met.

Measures of success:

  • Accurately develop functional specifications
  • Accurately develop circuit schematic and printed circuit board design
  • Accurately develop circuit simulation
  • Accurately develop firmware development
  • Accurately develop purchase specification

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develops, designs, and implements hardware and firmware for embedded systems ensuring that the project objectives and schedules are met.
  • Creates Circuit Schematic/Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design
  • Performs coding, testing, debugging, and modifying of complex embedded systems.
  • Coordinates and participates in hardware and firmware design reviews and code reviews.
  • Documents and archives software program releases in accordance with company software development process.
  • Develops product requirements specifications and product functional specifications.
  • Works closely with a team of other highly skilled engineering professionals to solve cross functional design issues and deliver top quality products to the end user.
  • Provides technical expertise on embedded hardware and firmware to multiple project teams, sales and marketing, quality services and customers. Assists in the resolution of product based technical issues.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with a strong background in software development and/or software engineering
  • 3+ years of embedded systems hardware and firmware development
  • Experience with HVAC residential and commercial control systems, schemes and proportional–integral–derivative (PID) loop control.
  • Strong C programming skills and assembly languages with expertise in well-structured and documented analysis, design, and coding
  • Working knowledge of Version Control, Visual Source Safe, and bug tracking software
  • Experience with logic analyzers, scopes and multi meters
  • Experience with Windows CE and Platform Builder
  • Experience with Communication Interfaces (USB, I2C, RS232, RS485, Ethernet, CAN)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational, communication and teamwork skills
  • Minimal travel to conferences, trainings and customers

Work Environment

This position works primarily in an office environment using computer and technology.  Verbal and auditory capability are required.  Occasional exposure in production plant where large equipment and noise are prevalent.  Safety gear is required in these areas.

Hybrid - This position may work from home up to 2X/week if performance is in good standing.
