General Description of Role and Responsibilities:

The Geotechnical Engineer will form part of an overall team responsible for leading and managing geotechnical investigations, analyses, and design work for a range of projects. This role requires a deep understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering, coupled with extensive experience in project management. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, other engineering disciplines, and clients to deliver successful project outcomes.

  • Lead and manage geotechnical investigations, including planning, execution, and reporting.
  • Conduct detailed geotechnical analyses and design for foundations, slopes, embankments, retaining structures, and other geotechnical features.
  • Prepare and review geotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to project teams, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Perform site visits and inspections to assess ground conditions and construction progress.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Mentor and supervise junior geotechnical engineers and technical staff.
  • Participate in business development activities, including proposal preparation and client presentations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Line Manager / Supervisor.

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A Masters degree is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a strong background in project management.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical analysis and design, using relevant software and methodologies.
  • Experience in preparing geotechnical reports and recommendations for clients and stakeholders.
  • Experience in project management, including scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating with other engineering disciplines.
  • Thorough understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and geotechnical engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with geological concepts, including stratigraphy, hydrology, and geomorphology.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical testing procedures and interpretation of test results.
  • Knowledge of construction methods and procedures related to foundations and earthworks.
  • Ability to operate geotechnical field equipment and perform field tests.
  • Understanding of building codes, standards, and regulations related to geotechnical engineering.
  • Awareness of environmental considerations and sustainability practices in geotechnical projects.
  • Proficiency in modern geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or similar.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
