The Opportunity:

The Chief Risk Officer, FCC is a key role overseeing the Fidelity Clearing Canada (“FCC”) risk function and responsible for identifying and monitoring the various regulatory obligations and risks arising in connection with the operation of FCC and to provide strategic direction and vision for the Risk function across the organization. This role will oversee and continually develop the FCC risk management framework, related policies and processes, ensuring they meet business and regulatory expectations.

The Chief Risk Officer will be a leadership role supporting the growth of FCC and promote and protect the reputation and effectiveness of FCC through the continued development of critical risk programs in conjunction with other business stakeholders.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead the strategic oversight of FCC’s Risk Framework to ensure continual development, communication and success of FCC’s Risk Management program.  
  • Lead the management of significant risk issues/events including assessment, root cause analysis, communication, and review and validation of remediation actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Develop regular reporting and formally present to each of Senior Management, the Risk and Controls Committee and the Audit Committee of the Board on the status of FCC's Risk Programs.
  • Lead or participate in cross Fidelity projects, ensuring operational risks are properly assessed.
  • Ensure new risk programs/initiatives and changes to existing programs are communicated effectively across the organization and that appropriate training is provided where required. Offer risk consultation services as required.
  • Adhere to all people manager accountabilities, by exemplifying the Fidelity values and leadership behaviours. 

What We’re Looking For:

  • University degree or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of experience in risk management and risk programs
  • Prior experience in a compliance and back-office operations role
  • 10+ years of experience at the management level
  • Professional designation or certificate in risk management or internal control
  • CA designation is considered an asset

  • A strong ability to communicate (written and verbal). Effective presentation skills.
  • Emphasis on risk and an inquiring mind.
  • Broad knowledge of the financial services and wealth market in Canada.
  • Knowledge and understanding of clearing firm regulatory obligations, Canadian brokerage industry and brokerage operations, including the impact of technology on this market.
  • Experience managing projects and scaling processes with company growth.
  • Ability to plan, monitor, control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources, to achieve project objectives.
  • Ability to collaborate and influence across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong influencing skills. Gains acceptance of ideas and suggestions from senior business executives.
  • Superior knowledge of processes, tools, and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the Canadian regulatory environment, CIRO rules and regulations, OSC and other provinces and territories.
