The Marketing Division leads brand, creative, marketing, and membership initiatives as a cross-group organization with a mission to expand Rakuten Group's over 70 services’ membership value and ecosystem.

 

Department Overview

The mission of the Creative Design Strategy Department is to maximize brand & business value by evolving the group-wide creative quality & customer experience.

The Rakuten Experience Design Section gives design advice for more than 70 Rakuten Group services, the Rakuten ecosystem, and more.

This position provides involvement in a variety of areas and services and allows for significant impact on the Rakuten Group's user experience.

 

Why We Hire

Rakuten Group has a system to assure the quality of user experience by running pre-release usability tests for new product releases and large-scale renewal projects.

We are looking for a UX Researcher (Usability Specialist) who can work with us to plan and promote usability testing for a wide variety of design targets from the over 70 Rakuten Group services and the Rakuten ecosystem.

 

Position Details

- To understand each assigned project in depth and plan an effective and valid usability test.

- Design and create a web survey to recruit the right users for each project.

- Consider scenarios that test the natural experience of the product to be released.

- Conduct tests with as little bias as possible.

- Identify usability issues based on user behavior and comments during testing.

- Create reports that make it easy for the service members to understand the issues and to find ways to improve them.

- Present a final report to the service members and guide them in making improvements.

- Conduct in-depth interviews, questionnaires, field surveys, etc., depending on the research goal.

- Create a culture of UX research within Rakuten and create a framework for efficient operations (ResearchOps).

 

Work Environment

Usability testing is conducted primarily with Rakuten employees, often during regular weekday hours.

We provide flexible hours and the ability to work from home one day per week.

When you come to the office, you will work either at Rakuten Crimson House or at the UX Research Room in the Futako-Tamagawa Rise office.

Mandatory Qualifications:

- Minimum of 3 years of experience with UX research (especially usability testing)

- Ability to plan and promote effective and valid usability testing methodologies

- Business level Japanese skills (reading, writing and speaking)

- Be able to identify with the culture of the Rakuten Group

Desired Qualifications:

- Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Ergonomics, Psychology, Cultural anthropology, or a related field

- Ability to work with designers, engineers, and other members of other departments in various positions to promote projects smoothly

- Ability to thrive in stressful environment and remain steady while achieving your assigned objectives

- Ability to learn about different services in various areas and to empathize with users

- Displays flexibility in both methodologies applied and thinking, without being bound by past experiences or established methodologies

- Experience in organizational management and human resource development

- Business level English skills (reading, writing and speaking)
