Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Accountant with a strong background in working within the Australian market. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in various accounting tasks, ensuring compliance with Australian financial regulations, and providing support to the finance team.

Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, per Australian accounting standards.
  • Tax Compliance: Assist in the preparation and submission of tax returns, BAS/GST, and other compliance requirements as per Australian tax regulations.
  • Accounts Payable/Receivable: Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice processing, payment reconciliation, and debtor management.
  • General Ledger Maintenance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the general ledger, ensuring transactions are properly categorized and reconciled.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Support the budgeting and forecasting process by providing financial data and analysis to facilitate decision-making.
  • Audit Support: Assist in the coordination of external audits and ensure compliance with audit requirements, including the preparation of audit schedules and responding to auditor queries.
  • Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement, providing insights to management for strategic decision-making.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously review accounting processes and procedures, identifying areas for improvement and implementing efficiencies where possible.
  • Ad Hoc Tasks: Undertake ad hoc financial tasks and projects as required by the finance manager or senior management.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience working as an Assistant Accountant within the Australian market.
  • Thorough understanding of Australian accounting principles and tax regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., MYOB, Xero, QuickBooks) and MS Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide insights.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Must be able to work in Australian Eastern Standard Time (9 AM AEST to 6 PM AEST, Mondays to Fridays)
