The Commercialization Officer is an unclassified, professional position in the Office of Innovation and Technology Commercialization (ITC) at LSU. The position assists in the identification, evaluation, processing, protection, marketing, and licensing of LSU's intellectual property. This position assists in maintaining, marketing, and promoting LSU's mission to advance innovation by serving faculty, supporting the research enterprise, and partnering with entrepreneurs and businesses to commercialize inventions that enhance the economy and benefit the public.
Job Responsibilities:
-Oversees assigned disclosures and assists the office with technology disclosures and all related processes as needed. Conducts initial reviews for patentability and marketability. Works with LSU faculty inventors, other ITC staff, patent attorneys, and consultants to further evaluate the patentability and commercialization potential of technology disclosures to enhance the economy and benefit the public. (40%)
-Processes, develops, and implements commercialization plans for LSU intellectual property. Creates non-confidential promotional materials for technologies / capabilities / research expertise / etc. Processes and prepares records for internal handling, for external distribution through third party websites and software such as Wellspring, iBridge, Flintbox, and AUTM GTP, and for distribution directly to potential partners and collaborators within and outside LSU. Collects, records, and analyzes market information and feedback to adjust and modify existing marketing practices. (35%)
-Works directly with other staff as needed to fulfill the mission of ITC to protect and commercialize LSU's intellectual property. Helps to plan and carry out all ITC efforts by using as many available in-house resources as possible, and by using external resources as needed and approved. Develops and maintains strong working relationships with departments, colleges, and research centers. (10%)
-Reviews agreements and other documents associated with technology transfer activities. Finalizes and processes all license documentation as necessary to be in compliance with LSU bylaws and regulations as well as appropriate policies and ITC practices and procedures. Assists in the preparation and filing of provisional patent applications. (10%)
-Other duties as needed. (5%)
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and one year professional experience, which could also include internship experience. Experience in one of more of the following: technology transfer, database management, product development, business development, marketing, intellectual property, or technology licensing.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in a STEM field or JD.
