Community Engagement & Events Specialist

Are you enthusiastic about promoting cultural understanding and orchestrating impactful global events? Join Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI) as a Community Engagement & Events Specialist, where you'll have the exciting opportunity to collaborate with thought leaders of the Sikh community in designing and delivering experiences for a diverse global audience.

Key Responsibilities:

As a pivotal member of SikhRI, you will play a dual role in cultural engagement and event planning, ensuring a seamless blend of tradition and innovation. Your key responsibilities include:

  1. Cultural Engagement: Foster positive relationships within the Sikh community, demonstrating a genuine understanding of their cultural traditions, values, and practices.
  2. Event Coordination: Efficiently manage, organize, and coordinate both in-person and online events in a systematic and scalable manner.
  3. Leadership and Staff Retreats: Take the lead in planning, organizing, and running "Sidak" our annual leadership retreat, contributing to the growth and development of participants. Sidak, along with our Leadership, Stakeholder and staff retreats will be yours to lead the design and execute into memorable occasions for our staff, students and leaders within our community.
  4. Fundraising Events: strategically plan, execute, and manage fundraising events to achieve revenue targets.
  5. Alumni Network: Cultivate and expand the Sidak Alumni Network, fostering lasting connections among program graduates.
  6. Collaboration: Work closely with regional coordinators, institutional partners, and community organizations to organize and promote programs and events.
  7. Logistics Management: Research venue options, schedule events, coordinate logistics, and manage travel arrangements for event locations.
  8. Volunteer Management: Secure and manage volunteers, ensuring a smooth execution of events.
  9. Marketing Collaboration: Collaborate with the Marketing team on event concepts, graphic design, production, printing, promotion, and overall event marketing.
  10. Platform Management: Utilize platforms such as BigMarker, Zoom, Google Meet, and FB Live to set up events, manage registrations, and publish event details.
  11. Webinars and Moderation: Host webinars, occasionally moderate discussions, and manage the recording of sessions, addressing technical issues.
  12. Tech Support: Provide technical support for all online sessions, ensuring a seamless virtual experience.
  13. Post-Event Reporting: Generate post-event reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Key Competencies:

  1. Cultural Awareness: Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of the cultural traditions, values, and practices of the Sikh community.
  2. Education and Experience: Associates degree with 3 years of work experience or equivalent experience.
  3. Social Media Integration: Experience in integrating social media into event planning and execution.
  4. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Organization and Teamwork: Detail-oriented with strong multitasking and team-playing abilities.
  6. Budget Management: Skills in budget management and negotiation.
  7. Tech Savvy: Fast learner and expertise in modern web tools and technologies.
  8. Flexibility: Accommodate a flexible work schedule based on event needs and priorities.
  9. Industry Experience: Experience in non-profit, community development, or educational institutions preferred.

Language Skills: Proficiency in Panjabi is required.
