Job description

We're looking for a Senior QA Analyst to join our team at Hypixel Studios, which collaborates remotely from around the world. Our members range from industry newcomers to experts with 25+ years of experience. Team members come from a diverse set of backgrounds, but share a common passion for building polished player-focused, community-powered games.

Join us on our mission to bring players together in an inviting, immersive world where they can make their mark. Hytale empowers creative expression across a spectrum of experiences including sandbox adventure, social play, minigames, and creativity using a suite of powerful and accessible tools.

As a Senior QA Analyst, you will be responsible for recognizing the important impact to internal and player quality that you have. You are independently communicating risks, conducting quality planning, and executing quality practices. You are an embedded member of the Environments team working across a group or multiple groups of features, driving quality transparency across areas relevant to your teams. Your growth focuses on impact, risk, FLURPS and communicating complexities across disciplines and teams. You mentor others within QA on these aspects, while providing impactful testing support and help to improve QA processes by utilising your knowledge in these areas. You work alongside members of the Environments team, representing QA within it and advocating for following best practices.

Who you are:

  • Player/Customer Focus - Understanding and advocating for player needs is paramount. Knowing who to gather feedback from is essential, as is representing diverse customer segments and being able to build test plans that effectively address their needs.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration - Gathering QA requirements from others and maintaining commitment to these collaborations. Effective communication of complex topics, tailored to various audiences, is crucial, along with advising on QA best practices and strategies.
  • Estimation and Planning - Structuring work, assisting in test planning for a work group, and moderating complex tasks are key. Making dependencies clear and managing them for small projects is vital.
  • Craft Excellence - You have complete knowledge and full understanding of an area of specialisation. You are effective in the role with an eagerness to improve. You require little to no oversight.
  • Problem Solving, Adaptability and Innovation - You can identify, solve and deliver solutions on issues with minimal guidance. You use evaluation, judgement and interpretation to select the right course of action. Work is done independently and is reviewed at critical points.

Some of your role:

  • Test Plans - Development, mentoring, and reviewing of test plans are central tasks, with a focus on understanding how features and testing activities impact the overall scope of your area.
  • Test Cases - Using both team and player data, as well as an understanding of FURPS, effective test cases are crafted from test scenarios in order to provide coverage for the Environments team. Collaboration with other disciplines and development teams for tooling, automation and further information is paramount.
  • Test Execution & Reporting - Utilising test plans and knowing which FURPS testing techniques are needed and when, test execution may be performed both independently or as part of a group. The results and health of the build can then be communicated with the team, prioritising issues or unexpected behaviours accordingly and escalating identified risks.
  • Impact of Defects - Articulating the broader impact of defects across features, teams and product levels, along with influencing others on analytical approaches, is key.
  • Risk Assessments - Creating, updating, and mentoring on risk assessments, alongside reviewing others' work and making connections to the impact on quality, are core responsibilities. Additionally, advising on risk mitigation and escalation is crucial.

Essential Traits:

  • An embedded team member and point of contact for QA, participating across multiple development teams rituals to deliver results.
  • Proactively communicates and collaborates with both QA and non-QA discipline counterparts, managing collaborations across multiple features.
  • Demonstrable understanding of QA best practises, Agile development fundamentals and how they both apply in practice and at Hypixel.
  • Ability to communicate complex data, analysis, risk and reasonings in a clear and effective manner in reports and meetings.
  • Verifiable proficiency with defect logging in a system like Jira, test case writing in a tool like TestRail or Zephyr, and experience within a game engine or software integrated development environments.

Bonus Traits:

  • A personal passion for open world, builder, or survival games
  • Experience with testing across multiple platforms
  • Experience working in Unreal, Unity or a proprietary engine
  • Experience working with Rendering or in a Rendering focused team
  • ISTQB certified or have similar certifications/training

We can offer:

  • Competitive salary
  • Annual Performance Bonus (APB)
  • Quality of Life increases
  • Christmas closure
  • A chance to work on a new game project with an extremely motivated team
  • Opportunities to learn and grow personally and professionally
  • A stable and secure work environment
  • The ability to work remotely

We’re looking for applicants who are self-driven, put players first, and that have a history of making cool stuff. In return, we can offer an environment that values and supports individual creativity and passion and believes in fostering new talent. We recognize the value of diversity in every sense and actively encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply.
