Main Purpose/Focus of the Position: The Business Support Unit Team Specialist (BSU Specialist) will partner with Trade Navigators, other Job Center staff and other organizations who serve employers, to help employers meet their workforce needs. The BSU Specialist will also provide reemployment services and guidance to employers within assigned region concerning staff reductions, layoffs or worksite closures. The BSU Specialist will provide business services for employers in the Kansas City/North region.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with Missouri One Start team, local Chambers of Commerce, economic development agencies, employer groups, businesses and other organizations to market/promote DED, DHEWD/OWD, Division of Employment Security and partner workforce services
  • Serves as liaison between these State economic development efforts and local Workforce Development Boards (WDBs)/Job Centers regarding workforce development services for the purpose of job creation and job retention
  • Develops/maintains working relationships with WDBs and local business service team leads regionally
  • Assists businesses to identify and resolve human resource related issues by maintaining a thorough knowledge of business programs, services and resources in coordination with the local business team
  • Serves as the Region's State Rapid Response Representative which includes setting up, coordinating and overseeing Employment Transition meetings and related activities
  • Monitors local Employment Transition activities and services provided in assigned region
  • Participates on local business retention, economic development, and other committees to assist on workforce initiatives
  • Increases businesses participation in the Labor Exchange system
  • Oversees and assists in implementing statewide business services special projects and new statewide initiatives within the region as directed by OWD Central Office
  • Participates in local business retention and other committees to assist with workforce initiatives as requested
  • Participates in Certified Work Ready Communities initiative
  • Perform other related work as assigned.
  • Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance.
  • Beneficial education and/or work-related experience includes technical or professional experience in business, personnel, public administration or closely related area, including military service.
