This position requires hands on knowledge of Linux/UNIX operating systems and server technologies located in cloud and on-prem. Should have a basic knowledge of industry hardware types and interoperability. Should have a basic understanding of application software. Person in this role must be able to work with other system administrators on their team located at that site and other locations. The person will work with colleagues regarding builds, patches, updates, testing and sharing results. This person needs to provide operational support for legacy, current and emerging technologies. The global System Operations team is a sizable team of over 50 individuals located in six different regions that support a highly available Platforms. We are looking for help to support the daily operations, project work & vulnerability management. The individual in this role will work a Monday through Friday schedule with a weekend rotation to support BAU and project work. Due to our global working model all work will be in normal daylight hours within region so after-hours support will not be required. |
Role Responsibility
• Responsible for operational support and maintenance of over 10,000 servers located globally on-prem and in cloud, running Red Hat Enterprise Linux on physical/virtual servers. This includes server builds, monitoring, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of servers. • Supporting cloud VMs, mostly Azure, but includes AWS and GCP as well. • Perform system administration duties across the environment to provide support services for customer. • Perform system recoveries. • Maintain server availability for all sites and periodically participate in DR exercises. • Must have good problem solving, teamwork, communication and customer service skills. • Resolve help desk escalations and process items in a ticket queue. • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues and provide operations support for bridge calls. • Participate in the implementation of UNIX related projects for server builds. • Monitor servers and remediate alerts that get raised. • Being able to follow documented processes and procedures is critical. • English language skills & good clear communication is an absolute must. • There are no after-hours on call requirements, but the individual should remain flexible for critical situations. |
Experience
• Unix / Linux experience - preferably RHEL (7 & 8) • Knowledge of server builds (kickstart/jumpstart) • Experience with OpenShift, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud (e.g. Azure) is a plus • Experience with Puppet and scripting; Perl or python is a plus. • Server hardware (Client ProLiant & Dell) • Conceptual knowledge of storage and networking components (TCP/IP, NFS, DNS, LDAP, FTP, NTP, Samba) |
