Job description

Position Overview

The Global Financial Solutions (GFS) line of business accounts for over 50% of RGA’s consolidated income. The Longevity line of business is one of RGA’s fastest growing lines of business. The GFS Longevity Risk Management team is responsible for the effective in-force and risk management of longevity risk assumed globally, which represents over $70 billion in benefit obligations.

Our Data Actuary, Longevity Risk Analytics will be a key player in ensuring that the longevity line of business continues to be a key part of the long-term success of GFS and RGA.

They are responsible for:

  • Effective risk and in-force management of globally assumed products with longevity risk
  • Driving efficiencies in longevity and collateral systems and processes
  • Leveraging the value in the inforce, through actionable analytics and business insights
  • Supporting new business growth

Responsibilities

Database Development and Maintenance

  • Leverage actuarial data warehouse, data engineering and/or data architect experience to lead the development and implementation of the Longevity Analytics Database (LAD)
  • Automation of data pipelines and analytics for more than six siloed processes with varying data taxonomies across functional processes
  • Leverage database and cloud technology to create centralized storage for longevity in-force and risk management processes
  • Employ Python and R code to enable automation and efficiencies for data reconciliations and analytics
  • Effectively utilize visualization tools to improve reporting of in-force Longevity business metrics and analytics
  • Drive innovation in in-force Longevity processes in order to achieve scalability and improve controls
  • Communication and collaboration across various teams to enable process automation

Inforce and Risk Management

  • Data, Experience and Performance Analysis
    • Analyze the impact of data changes in the in-force files, and work with clients to establish a revised premium and financial settlement
    • Perform experience analysis and leverage insights in longevity experience emergence to propose changes to best estimate assumptions, and comment on income expectations incorporated in GFS annual Plan
    • Develop performance and trend metrics from in-force experience studies
  • Collateral Management
    • Automate collateral exposure calculations to estimate current and ongoing collateral needs
    • Work with the Collateral Management team to develop performance and trend metrics
    • Create analytics based on sensitivity runs with respect to the potential variability of GFS collateral needs, including detailed explanations of any period-over-period changes
  • Risk Management
    • Work with the Longevity In-force and Risk Management team to develop performance and trend metrics related to the key risk associated with pension risk transfer business (e.g. longevity, market/credit, operational, etc.), including reporting on usage against risk limits

Leadership and Coaching

  • Provide thought leadership to the team and department with respect to data science and data architecture
  • Manage junior staff and co-op student performance to support department goals and objectives
  • Support development of junior staff and drive team engagement

Requirements

Education, Experience & Skills

Required:

  • Fellowship in a recognized actuarial organization preferred (FSA, FIA, FCAS, FIAA)
  • 10+ years’ experience; at least 7 years post-qualification experience
  • Undergraduate degree in related field
  • Essential to have actuarial data warehouse, data engineering and/or data architect experience
  • Expert proficiency in SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle or similar database technology
  • Expert proficiency in programming language, either in R or Python
  • Advanced proficiency in visualization tools such as R-Shiny or Plotly-Dash
  • Experience in actuarial modelling software such as Prophet and/or AXIS
  • Experience in cloud technologies such as Snowflake
  • Advanced knowledge of life insurance, longevity, and/or annuity products
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, whereby complex and technical information can be conveyed in a way that is meaningful by all stakeholders, including senior management
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to work effectively with different stakeholders and disciplines across the company, including local offices, pricing, finance, treasury, valuation, investments, administration as well as external customers
  • Effective project management skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
  • Strong service and result orientation and a drive to make a difference.
  • Ability to operate at both strategic and detailed levels, anticipate future needs, be proactive and adjust to constant change

Preferred:

  • Previous reinsurance and data science work experience
  • Knowledge of IFRS, LDTI, Solvency 2
  • Advanced proficiency in using source control systems, such as Git
  • Knowledge of statistical modelling (GLM, GAM, Decision Trees, etc)
  • Experience with GFS lines of business
  • Experience with people management and the ability to lead/influence people who may not have a direct reporting relationship

State of Colorado: This information is provided per the Colorado Equal Pay Act. The pay range for this position in Colorado is $132,430 - $202,455 per year. Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location.
