Overview

Job Description

The VP Government Affairs will be responsible for developing and implementing Myriad’s government affairs strategy at the Federal level with external government stakeholders, trade associations and patient organizations. The VP will serve as the company’s registered lobbyist as appropriate with Congress and executive branch agencies. The VP will manage and oversee the company PAC and serve as President. Federal consulting firms as well as memberships in trade groups and coalitions will be under the management of the VP including staffing the CEO in his board roles for groups.

The VP will build relationships with identified stakeholders such as legislative and executive offices, caucuses, patient groups, healthcare provider groups, professional societies, and other stakeholder organizations to support company priorities including Medicare/VA coverage and timely payment of the company’s genetic tests, FDA oversight of LDTs, changes to Medicare lab fee schedule, telehealth policies, and other identified issues.

The VP will serve as a resource for the Business Units, Medical Affairs, Payer Markets, Quality & Regulatory, and Legal when it comes to legislation and regulation at the federal level.

Responsibility

  • Represent Myriad at public meetings, legislative hearings and government events; interface with trade associations and various coalitions as directed.
  • Monitor, track and analyze federal regulatory proposals and legislation; develop public comments.
  • Influence federal government legislation, regulation and policy affecting Myriad’s business interests to effectively serve patients.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with congressional and executive offices.
  • Build meaningful partnerships, as needed, with the patient advocacy community in various states to advance key Medicaid reimbursement and policy goals.
  • Develop and maintain a network of internal subject matter experts to advise on key policy issues.
  • Develop and maintain thorough working knowledge of federal government policy issues affecting the company including prior authorization, fee schedule pricing, coding, FDA regulation, VA policies/guidelines, telehealth requirements in Medicare, etc.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 10 years of government affairs experience; federal lobbying experience is required with a preference for health care and provider focused work.
  • Established relationships with federal officials is required.
  • Experience in the diagnostic industry, personalized medicine, oncology, mental health or women’s health are valued.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and efficient channels of communication with a network of federal officials and patient organizations.
  • Experience translating and communicating complex scientific and technical content to a broad range of audiences.
  • Established track-record of implementing impactful, strategic advocacy initiatives.
  • Proven capability to influence and counsel senior leaders and teams across various functions and geographical boundaries.
  • Strong project management skills, including managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confident personal presence and experience managing and hosting live activities/programs.
  • Ability to travel; up to 15%

Physical Requirements

Lifting Requirements – sedentary work or exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Physical Requirements – stationary positioning, moving, communicating, and observing. Use of equipment and tools that are necessary to perform essential functions of the job.
