The Crane Service Technician is a multi-skilled position in charge of maintaining and fixing the cranes' hydraulic and mechanical systems. He / she is required to troubleshoot crane control systems, examine crane equipment, remove and install crane components, and conduct other tasks. Additionally, the incumbent is in charge of mechanical systems on board ships, overhauling, hydraulic and mechanical workshop activities, and delivering thorough reports with findings, actions, and recommendations.
Job Responsibilities:
Inspection of Hydraulic and Mechanical Systems
Provide onboard and remote inspections for the cranes hydraulics and mechanical systems.
1. Gather and obtain the comprehensive understanding of the crane, including but not limited to user manuals, technical specifications, and records.
2. Review safety guidelines, manuals, and other related documents. Ensure that the components and other materials or items are in safe and good condition.
3. Conduct a visual inspection and identify the damages, corrosion on hydraulic lines, fittings, valves, and mechanical components.
4. Examine hydraulic tanks and ensure that the fluid level is in the recommended range according to the safety guides and manuals. Ensure that the fluid color is clear and free from contaminants.
5. Ensure the functionality of the hydraulic system and observe its operation by checking irregular sound, leaks, excessive vibrations, and other check items based on the manual or other documents. Check the controls' responsiveness and accuracy.
6. Inspect mechanical components like boom, hooks, cables and other aspects according to the checklist.
7. Conduct load testing and check the the cranes capacity and stability as needed and should be performed according to the guidelines and safety standards
8. Conduct proper documentation and record-keeping of all the inspection items.
Troubleshoot, Repair and Test of the Hydraulic and Mechanical Systems
Conduct troubleshooting, repair, and testing of hydraulic and mechanical systems as needed.
1. Identify the problem by gathering malfunction issues and problems. Diagnose the hydraulic and mechanical issues in accordance with the manuals and guidelines.
2. Repair and/or replace any faulty or damaged mechanical and hydraulic components, following the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines.
3. Test all the repaired or replaced components by conducting functionality tests and calibration to verify the correct and safe operation of the crane itself.
4. Document and record all the replaced and repaired documents.
Administrative Tasks
Update and maintain all the reports and documents related to cranes hydraulic and mechanical systems.
1. Ensure the completeness of all the documents related to inspection, repair, or troubleshoot and replacement.
2. Monitor and report on the components and materials lifespans. Identify the components and materials that are due for replacement, refurbish them and update the immediate superior.
3. Prepare and create purchase requests for all necessary items, components, and materials.
4. Fulfill duties and tasks that are related to their section or department from time to time.
Qualifications:
- Level 3 college technical qualification (or higher).
- Additional job-related training courses are advantageous.
- Must be apprentice-trained or equivalent and fully conversant with electrical engineering disciplines.
- Must have Philippine or Overseas certifications related to his/her function.
- Minimum 5 years in the crane industry is preferred; experience within the crane industry essential.
